Branding Hearts: A Riding Adventure for Children with Disabilities
Bringing Joy to Young Hearts
For 14 remarkable years, the Cross Brand Cowboy Church has been lighting up the lives of local children with disabilities through its signature event, the Branding Hearts Rodeo. This unique rodeo not only showcases the spirit of rodeo culture but also promotes inclusivity, joy, and connection among young participants.
A Growing Tradition
According to Pam McGee, the passionate team leader behind the Branding Hearts Rodeo, this beloved event has blossomed significantly since its inception. "When we first began, we had about 20 kids join us," McGee reminisced. "Now, we can barely keep up with demand!"
Rapid Growth Over the Years
The rodeo has evolved from a small gathering to a major event, accommodating over 160 children this past Friday alone! Here’s a look at its impressive growth over the years:
- First Year: Approximately 20 kids
- Initial Expansion: About 30 kids (Pre-K to senior year)
- Continued Growth: Jumping to around 60 participants
- Present Day: Over 100 enthusiastic attendees
Exciting Activities for Everyone
At the heart of this event are diverse activities that captivate the children. Participants indulge in:
- Petting Zoo: A delightful opportunity to meet an array of friendly animals.
- Guided Horseback Riding: A thrilling experience that makes every child’s dreams come true.
- Fun Games with Prizes: Engaging games designed to encourage camaraderie and competition.
The Magic of Connection
Brack Bivens, the arena director at Cross Brand Cowboy Church, shared a touching perspective on the impact this event has on children. "Seeing the kids connect with the animals is incredibly rewarding," he noted. "Many of them start off reserved or shy, but when they touch a horse, it’s like a lightbulb goes on." This magical bond between the children and the animals helps break barriers, encouraging the kids to open up and express themselves.
Looking Ahead
Friday’s event was specially organized for children in fifth grade and under, with plans for another rodeo slated for junior high and high school-aged kids in the upcoming fall. This commitment to expanding opportunities ensures that more children can enjoy the transformative experience of rodeo.
The Branding Hearts Rodeo goes beyond mere entertainment—it fosters connections, boosts confidence, and creates cherished memories. As this extraordinary event continues to grow, it remains a testament to the power of community, compassion, and the joy of equestrian adventures.
