Avery Residence Hall Renovation: A Fresh Perspective from Marketing Intern Haedyn Mills

Introduction to Avery Hall’s Transformation

Hey Carolina Housing! My name is Haedyn Mills, and I’m thrilled to share my recent experience touring the ongoing renovations at Avery Residence Hall. As a Carolina Housing Marketing Intern, I had an exciting opportunity to explore the groundbreaking changes taking place in a building that holds a special place in the hearts of many students.

Why Avery Residence Hall?

Nestled within the vibrant landscape of our campus, Avery Residence Hall was built in 1958 and hadn’t seen significant updates in over a decade. Having lived in Teague Residence Hall, which boasts a similar original layout, I was particularly eager to witness the transformation up close. Avery Hall is about to become even more accommodating, and I couldn’t wait to uncover what’s in store!

A Look Inside: Key Renovations

Elevator Accessibility

One of the most impactful renovations involves the introduction of an elevator, a crucial upgrade considering that the building previously only had stair access. This enhancement is not merely cosmetic; it expands accessibility for students who require Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations. By adding a new elevator shaft via a tower at the back of the building, Avery will now feature two ADA-compliant rooms on every floor, with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms that include lower countertops.

Enhanced Communal Spaces

Another exciting development in Avery Residence Hall is the addition of kitchens on every floor. Currently, Teague has only one communal kitchen for its residents, which often leads to overcrowding. This upgrade means more convenient cooking options for students, fostering a sense of community and providing additional areas for social interaction.

With new lounge areas, relaxation and engagement among residents will flourish, ensuring that students have ample opportunities to build friendships and share experiences.

Central Air Conditioning: A Game Changer

Say goodbye to clunky window units! Each room in the newly renovated Avery Hall will be equipped with central air conditioning, marking a significant leap forward in student comfort. Residents will now have personalized control over their room temperature, mirroring the comforts found in other contemporary campus housing, such as Carmichael Residence Hall.

Spectacular Views and Prime Location

Avery’s new design also boasts stunning views overlooking Boshamer Stadium, making it an ideal choice for sports lovers and active students alike. Its location near various sporting facilities will be a game-changer for those wanting to immerse themselves in the campus’s athletic culture, making it a prime residence for involvement in all things Tar Heels!

Conclusion: Looking Forward to August 2025

In conclusion, I am truly excited about the renovations that Avery Residence Hall is undergoing. These updates not only reflect a dedication to improving student living conditions but also enhance the overall experience of UNC students.

I am grateful for the opportunity to explore the innovations taking place in Avery and am looking forward to seeing the finished product in August 2025! With these outstanding renovations, more students than ever will have the chance to thrive at Avery Residence Hall.

Stay tuned for more updates on student housing and campus living as we continue to elevate the Carolina experience!
