Say goodbye to cumbersome waste cans and hello to new wheeled carts—a practical and efficient solution for your waste disposal needs.
Transition to Curbside Service
The much-anticipated exchange from traditional non-wheeled containers to user-friendly wheeled carts is part of MarBorg’s strategic transition to curbside service. This change takes effect on July 1, according to city reports, and aligns with California’s solid waste initiatives, specifically SB 1383, which mandates standardized container colors across the state.
Why the Change?
Derek Carlson, MarBorg’s Vice President of Finance & Contracts, highlights several advantages:
- Enhanced Safety: Minimized risks for both the community and the MarBorg team.
- Reduced Traffic: Less vehicle idle time leads to decreased congestion.

What Residents Need to Know
Starting July 1, residents will be responsible for wheeling their carts to the curb on designated service days. Here are some important guidelines to keep in mind:
- Carts must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on collection days or the night before.
- Return carts to your property by noon the following day.
- Detailed instructions on cart placement will be sent via mail before the transition.
Pro Tip: To avoid any hiccups, make sure you’re familiar with the new guidelines well before the service change.
In-Place Service Options
For those currently using non-wheeled cans, MarBorg offers in-place service, where designated personnel collect waste from your property. While this service will remain at no extra cost through the end of June, customers can opt for a paid in-place service after the transition. Moreover, age or disability waivers may qualify you for this service at no additional charge.
Support During the Transition
Worried about the change? MarBorg is here to help! The city will provide a three-week grace period post-launch to assist residents in getting accustomed to the new cart placement rules. During this time, MarBorg will directly communicate with those needing help and will revisit improperly placed carts at no additional cost.
After the grace period ends, however, return trips for improperly placed carts will incur fees.
