With nearly a dozen diverse vendors showcasing their goods, the first market of the New Ken Downtown Partnership‘s weekly series drew eager locals. Set against the backdrop of downtown’s charming Fifth Avenue at 10th Street, this lively gathering takes place each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon until October 19, right outside the popular Voodoo Brewing.
Since the closure of the Shop ‘n Save in 2020, the area has long awaited a reliable source of fresh food options. The turnout at this inaugural event signaled a thriving demand for such community gatherings.
Quaint Vendors and Unique Offerings
This exciting culinary marketplace not only brings food back to the neighborhood but also unites regional producers under one roof. Participants hail from various local farms, including Blackberry Meadows Farm in Fawn and Conoco View Dairy located in Blain, Perry County, just north of Harrisburg.
Among the enthusiastic vendors, Mabel Nolt and her son, Kenton, proudly presented their raw cows’ milk, delicious yogurt smoothies, and enticing mocha milk. Meanwhile, Greg Boulos, owner of Blackberry Meadows, delighted the crowd by grilling eggs and sausage for mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches.
"The response was surprising," Boulos exclaimed, beaming about the day’s success. "We got kind of slammed, and it was awesome! We’re glad to be a part of it."
