Sonoma County Tourism is on a mission to shine a spotlight on the remarkable individuals and businesses that contribute to the region’s thriving tourism landscape. On May 7, the organization hosted its fifth annual Stars of the Industry awards at The Backdrop in Santa Rosa, where achievements across various categories were celebrated.
Celebrating Excellence in Tourism
The awards recognized exceptional contributions from 15 distinct categories. Notable winners this year included:
- Lodging Property of the Year: Flamingo Resort & Spa, Santa Rosa
- Visitor Center Program of the Year: Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve
- Entrepreneurial Stewardship: Dry Creek Vineyard
These recognized entities have not only excelled in their fields but have also played pivotal roles in enhancing the visitor experience throughout Sonoma County.
Why This Matters
The evening was hosted by acclaimed journalist Matt Villano, who highlighted the spirit of collaboration and innovation fueling the region’s tourism sector. Claudia Vecchio, president and CEO of Sonoma County Tourism, stated, “This year’s winners are not just exceptional professionals; they are change agents.” Their dedication couples with SCT’s mission of fostering economic resilience, impactful experiences, and sustainable practices.
Legacy Recognition
In addition to business awards, SCT honored ten individuals with Legacy Awards for their instrumental roles in founding the Sonoma County Tourism Business Improvement Area back in November 2004. This initiative laid the groundwork for the establishment of Sonoma County Tourism itself, creating a legacy that continues to positively impact the community.
Aligning with National Travel and Tourism Week
The Stars of the Industry awards coincided with National Travel and Tourism Week, celebrated from May 4-10 this year. Initiated in 1983, this week serves to highlight the significant contributions of the travel industry, which supports approximately 15 million jobs and generates a staggering $2.9 trillion in economic output. These insights speak volumes about the potential of travel to enrich lives and enhance local economies.
