Chaos at Food Lion: Six Arrested in Disturbing Assault Incident in New Castle, Delaware

In a shocking turn of events at a local Food Lion in New Castle, Delaware, six individuals have been arrested, while two more remain on the lam after launching a brutal assault on an employee. The incident, which has left shoppers and staff alike reeling, unfolded in broad daylight, raising concerns about safety in community spaces.

The Assault: A Shocking Encounter

At approximately 1:30 PM on Friday, Delaware State Troopers responded to an alarming report of an assault at the Food Lion located on Beaverbrook Plaza. An 18-year-old employee, simply doing his job at the register, found himself surrounded by a group of eight unknown assailants.

According to police reports, six of these suspects viciously kicked and punched the young employee, resulting in him losing consciousness during the attack. Adding to the surreal nature of the incident, one suspect stood on the sidelines cradling a baby, while another filmed the chaos unfold—a disturbing juxtaposition defying all social norms.

Immediate Aftermath: A Call for Help

As the young man lay incapacitated, a witness reported that one of the attackers even threatened to return and kill him as they fled the scene. Emergency Medical Services promptly transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for serious head injuries.

The Pursuit: Quick Actions Lead to Arrests

In an intense twist of events, shortly after the incident, a New Castle County police officer noticed the suspects fleeing in two vehicles—a dark-colored Nissan Murano and a dark-colored Ford Taurus. The Nissan was pulled over after failing to stop at a stop sign. To the officer’s astonishment, the four occupants—Jazzlyn Johnson, Joseph Brown-Terry, Curtis Miller, and a 16-year-old male—were recognized as accomplices in the assault.

All four were taken into custody without incident. Unfortunately, law enforcement’s attempt to locate the Ford Taurus was initially unsuccessful.

The Investigation: A Wider Pursuit for Justice

As investigations unfolded with the help of Probation and Parole, Quamere Britt and Luchiano Diaz were identified as two of the remaining assailants linked to the Ford. Both were apprehended by Sunday, but officials remain committed to identifying the last two suspects—a male and a female—who are still on the run.

Facing Consequences: Serious Charges Ahead

The six individuals in custody face a slew of serious charges, including:

  • 2nd-degree assault
  • Riot
  • Conspiracy 2nd-degree
  • Terroristic threatening
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Disorderly conduct

They are currently being held on various bonds, as authorities continue to reinforce the message that violence in community spaces will not be tolerated.

Community Response: A Call for Vigilance

This shocking incident has not only left the victim grappling with injuries but has also instilled fear among local residents. Food Lion, like many community retailers, represents a vital space for families and individuals, and safety concerns such as these call for better vigilance.

As local authorities issue statements assuring the community of ongoing investigations, it’s clear that this situation underscores the importance of safety and security in every neighborhood.
