Celebrating Women’s Wellness: The Heart & Sole Five Miler
A Gathering of Empowerment
COLUMBIA, S.C. – On a vibrant Saturday morning, nearly 700 women came together to celebrate health, camaraderie, and empowerment at the annual Lexington Medical Center Heart & Sole Women’s Five Miler. This beloved event, which has been uplifting women’s spirits and promoting wellness for over 20 years, emphasizes the vital importance of a healthy lifestyle, particularly in the fight against heart disease.
A Vision Realized
The race was co-founded by race director Jeanna Moffett and former WIS 10 news anchor Dawndy Mercer Plank. Mercer Plank shared her inspiring story: “In 2001, my best friend and I, both avid runners, wanted to extend the camaraderie we experience on the course to other women. We envisioned a race that would empower them in their health and encourage them to run.” And so, a race for women, by women was born.
Event Highlights
This remarkable women-only event featured a five-mile run and walk, along with a three-mile fitness walk, culminating at the scenic Gills Creek Memorial Park. After a brief hiatus in 2020 that interrupted 18 consecutive years of activity, this year introduced a new and exciting location in Forest Acres, inviting participants to experience the joy of running amidst nature.
Empowering Health and Wellness
In addition to the race, attendees had the unique opportunity to participate in an outdoor health and wellness expo, featuring vendors and workshops dedicated to promoting well-being. From nutrition tips to heart health screenings, the expo was a hub of information aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and encouraging them to live healthier lives.
Join the Movement
This event is more than just a race; it’s a vibrant celebration of community, health, and the empowerment of women. By bringing together countless women from diverse backgrounds, the Heart & Sole Five Miler underscores the importance of supporting one another in the pursuit of wellness.
