Celebrating Creativity at the 48-Hour Film Festival
The third annual 48-Hour Film Festival, hosted by the Arts Alliance, unfolded on March 22, presenting a whirlwind of creativity and talent. This exciting event challenged filmmakers to produce short films in a mere 48 hours, showcasing their abilities to write, shoot, and edit on a tight deadline. The impressive entries premiered at Fearon Hall on St. Bernardine’s campus, captivating an audience eager to embrace grassroots filmmaking.
A Red Carpet Evening
On festival night, around 150 attendees gathered, adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings with a red carpet gala prior to the film showcase. It was a night filled with anticipation, inspiration, and creativity, where local talent took center stage.
Unique Challenges Ignite Creativity
This year’s festival required participants to incorporate a specific line of dialogue—“Are you talking to me?”—and utilize a prop: a VHS tape labeled “Do not rewind.” Such quirky constraints inspired diverse storytelling approaches across seven films, although one late entry was sadly disqualified from award consideration.

Rounding out the festival, Geoff Binns-Calvey, an industry professional known for his expertise in special effects, treated the audience to a live demonstration, illustrating the delicate art of food styling for film.
