This weekend, the Northern Michigan Wildcats are gearing up for the much-anticipated Redbird Challenge at Illinois State University, marking their first opportunity to showcase their skills on the outdoor stage.
Event Details: What to Expect at the Redbird Challenge
Friday Features: Hammer Time
On Friday, March 28, the spotlight will shine on the throwers. The lone event of the day is the hammer throw, set to commence at 3 p.m. ET. Three Wildcats will battle it out as they seek to make their mark early in the season.
Saturday’s Schedule: All About Action
Saturday promises an electrifying lineup, with field events kicking off at 10 a.m. ET followed by track events at 1 p.m. ET. Athletes from across the region will compete for glory, and you won’t want to miss a moment of the action!

While the Upper Peninsula remains shrouded in ice and snow, Normal, Illinois, is expected to bask in temperatures reaching the upper 70s on Friday with some wind, and dropping to the upper 60s under cloudy skies on Saturday, presenting a classic spring race day atmosphere – albeit with a chance of rain.

Coach Jenny Ryan expressed her anticipation for the first few meets, stating, "These first couple meets we have a good chance to see where we are at from the indoor season to the outdoor. A few of the events change along with some new events, and it will be exciting to race outdoors."

Last year, the Wildcats finished strong at the Outdoor GLIAC Championships, securing 4th place out of 10 teams. With a total of 90 points, they consistently showcased their prowess on the track, solidifying a commendable position behind heavyweights like Grand Valley and Saginaw Valley.

- Crystal Walker shone bright, clinching 2nd place in the 100m hurdles and 3rd in the long jump.
