DBS Bank Launches Initiative to Empower Heartland Merchants with Digital Marketing Skills

In a transformative move for local businesses, DBS Bank has unveiled an initiative designed to enhance the digital marketing capabilities of heartland merchants in Singapore. This pioneering program aims to equip these merchants with the essential skills needed to thrive in the online marketplace, ensuring they can connect with a broader audience and diversify their customer base.

The Heartland Merchant Banking Package

On April 6, DBS announced that as part of this initiative, it will offer online courses tailored specifically for heartland merchants looking to transition into the digital realm. Those who sign up for the Heartland Merchant Banking Package will not only gain valuable marketing knowledge but also enjoy financial benefits, including waivers and cashback opportunities that could save them up to $1,880.

Community Support and Economic Resilience

At the initiative’s launch held at Oasis Terraces in Punggol, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean expressed his enthusiasm for DBS’s support of local entrepreneurs. He stated, “I’m very happy to see that companies like DBS are stepping up to support our local economy, our consumers, our seniors, and our merchants as well.”

Facing Global Challenges Head-On

In his address, SM Teo highlighted the significant global disruptions currently impacting economies worldwide, including ongoing conflicts and economic contention between major powers. “As a country and as a people, it’s crucial that we prepare ourselves for the future,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of collective resilience in navigating these uncertain times.

In a world where the economic landscape is continuously evolving, local businesses must adapt to remain viable. This initiative by DBS invests in the future stability of Singapore’s heartland merchants by fostering a strong digital presence that is more important than ever.

Engaging the Community: A Day of Learning and Fun

The launch event attracted over 800 merchants and residents, who participated in a variety of activities designed to promote digital literacy. Interactive booths for children taught healthy digital and financial habits, while a live-stream station offered merchants crucial insights into engaging with consumers online.

Alvin Chua, owner of Seoul Good Korean Restaurant, stepped out of his comfort zone to promote his dishes through a TikTok Shop live stream. He remarked on the experience, saying, “Our regular customers have given great and continued support for our restaurant, and we also want to share our food with new diners who may not live nearby.” His enthusiasm mirrors that of many merchants eager to embrace the digital age.

A Legacy of Support for Local Businesses

Mr. Lim Him Chuan, Singapore’s country head at DBS, emphasized the importance of heartland merchants, stating, “They are the heart of our neighborhoods and contribute greatly to our unique local heritage.” He underscored DBS’s commitment to supporting these vital businesses as they navigate the shift to a digital economy.

With initiatives like this, it’s clear that DBS Bank is not just a financial institution; it’s a champion for local enterprises, enhancing their capacity to adapt and thrive in today’s fast-paced digital world.
