Doomsday Pasta: A Culinary Revelation at Salt City Market

A Trendy New Addition to Downtown Syracuse

In the heart of downtown Syracuse, the Salt City Market continues to evolve, solidifying its reputation as a vibrant hub of diverse culinary experiences. As it enters its fifth year, market coordinator Nicole Whyte reveals the essence of 2025: stability. This philosophy is reflected in the market’s recent less frequent turnover of food vendors, a change that highlights the successful integration and lasting presence of its culinary offerings.

Welcome to Doomsday Pasta

For the most enticing addition to the market, look no further than Doomsday Pasta. This delightful food stand serves up artisanal pasta crafted from locally sourced ingredients, and began as a two-month pop-up in January—now extended through at least June due to its overwhelming popularity.

Owned by Keeli Manning, the stand has quickly become a fan favorite. Keeli’s passion for pasta ignited during the pandemic: “I thought, if this is the end of the world, what can I do?” she reflected, humorously dubbing her culinary venture as her answer to a global crisis.

Fresh, Local, and From Scratch

Keeli’s dedication to quality shines through in her dishes. With local farms like Stick and Stone Farm in Trumansburg supplying her ingredients, she ensures her offerings reflect the best of the region. “So far, it’s been great,” Keeli shared, expressing her hopes of continuing this delicious endeavor long-term.

Cooking with Love and Care

Pasta lovers will appreciate that each dish is made from scratch in the market’s teaching kitchen. Keeli skillfully prepares mouthwatering meals—think rich alfredo and zesty pomodoro sauces—right in front of diners, fostering a true farm-to-table experience. CJ Butler, the market’s communications manager, praises Keeli for her dazzling skills, stating, “Keeli has been great, taking her time to show people how it’s done.

A Culinary Community Hub

The Salt City Market, located at 484 S. Salina St., is more than just a collection of food stands; it’s a community hub where locals gather to connect and enjoy the vibrant culinary landscape. “We sometimes call it Grand Central Station,” CJ explains, emphasizing the bustling atmosphere that always feels welcoming.

Continuously evolving, Salt City Market reinvents itself with vendors like SinBun, famous for its sweet and savory filled buns, and ElleRae’s Tacos, which offers a delightful twist on classic Mexican fare. Not to be overlooked, longstanding favorites such as Mama Hai (Vietnamese) and Baghdad Cafe (Mediterranean) ensure that the market remains a destination for every palate.

Supporting Local Businesses

The market operates under the auspices of the Allyn Family Foundation’s Syracuse Urban Partnership, ensuring that Syracuse remains a competitive and inviting location for local vendors. As restaurants embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship, established businesses have the opportunity to expand beyond the market, creating a dynamic culinary ecosystem.
