Celebrating Excellence in Gymnastics Administration

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) has recognized Cindy Harris, the Executive Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Student Services at Illinois State University, as the 2025 South Central Region Administrator of the Year. This accolade underscores her exceptional contributions to the Redbird Gymnastics program and her commitment to fostering excellence in collegiate athletics.

A Commitment to Excellence

The WCGA’s annual regional awards celebrate exemplary figures in the gymnastics community, and the Sport Administrator of the Year award highlights those who have made a profound impact within their institutions. Selected through a vote by regional head coaches, this award highlights outstanding leadership, support, and dedication to the sport.

"These awards are a meaningful reflection of the dedication, innovation, and passion that define collegiate gymnastics," stated Casey Jo MacPherson, Chair of the WCGA Board of Directors. "We are thrilled to honor this year’s recipients and celebrate the impact they’ve had on their teams, institutions, and the broader gymnastics community."

Transforming Illinois State’s Gymnastics Program

Cindy Harris is entering her 12th season with the gymnastics program at Illinois State. Her mission? To elevate the Redbirds to the top tier of the Midwest Independent Conference and expand their reach into national competition. In collaboration with Head Coach Bob Conkling and the entire coaching staff, Harris continually seeks innovative ways to provide resources and support for the team, empowering Redbirds athletes to achieve championship glory.

Leadership Beyond Illinois State

In addition to her vital work with the Redbirds, Harris has been an invaluable member of the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee for the last six years. This committee plays a crucial role in the governance of collegiate gymnastics, overseeing vital areas like rule changes, equipment standards, and championship operations. Harris’s insights and expertise ensure that collegiate gymnastics events not only uphold the sport’s integrity but also provide a high-quality experience for athletes and fans alike.

Redbirds Shine in 2025

The Illinois State gymnastics program had an outstanding season in 2025, finishing in the top 40 of the final Road to Nationals team rankings. The Redbirds clinched the Midwest Independent Conference Championship for the second time in three years. This success was further highlighted by three gymnasts – seniors Jaye Mack, Alana Laster, and Sara Wabi – qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in Washington.
