Judy Foreman: Maison K Discovers New Horizons in Montecito’s Upper Village

The vibrant retail lifestyle scene of Montecito has just gotten a major upgrade with Maison K’s new location in the charming Upper Village. Taking over the former space of renowned interior designer Marc Normand Gelinas, this boutique promises a refreshing experience for artful shoppers and decor enthusiasts alike.

A New Chapter for Maison K

Owner Kimberly Phillips Hayes has relocated to 1485 East Valley Road, Suite 1, after a successful 22-year run at her Coast Village Road boutique, which closed in December. This new space embodies the essence of what Maison K has stood for since its inception in 2002: a curated collection of exquisite home décor, furnishings, fashion, and unique accessories sourced from around the globe.

"With the mountains’ breathtaking backdrop visible through expansive picture windows, less congestion than Coast Village Road, and ample parking, the serene atmosphere and classic Montecito charm really drew me to this new location,” comments Hayes.

The Heart of Maison K

Kimberly’s passion for art history, design, and world cultures shines brightly through every beautifully crafted item in the store. Her exquisite selections reflect a deep appreciation for fine materials and textural luxury—qualities that resonate with shoppers who value unique elegance.

Growing up in nearby Santa Barbara and earning her art history degree from UC Santa Barbara, Hayes’ journey in retail started when she began working for Wendy Foster at the age of 17. After stints in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, where she honed her skills at national retailers, she returned to her roots to launch Maison K.

A Perfect Fit in the Upper Village

Nestled among other delightful local businesses, including William Laman, Country House Antiques, Jenni Kayne Home, and [Lee Stanton](http://Lee Stanton), Maison K complements the aesthetic of the neighborhood perfectly. Here, shoppers can find an enchanting mix of home accessories, garden treasures, and refined antiques.

While it has long been a beloved destination for gifts and decorative items, Hayes’ vision for Maison K is evolving. While still featuring an array of women’s apparel and accessories sourced from boutique vendors in Italy, France, Greece, and beyond, she is increasingly introducing private-label designs that truly showcase her artistry.

Unique Offerings Await

Customers can look forward to discovering Hayes’ exclusive "house label" creations—crafted with love and inspiration from her travels. Among these exceptional pieces are:

  • Velveteen shoes
  • Hermès-inspired reversible silk scarves
  • Tailored man-style shirts
  • Luxurious Italian cashmere

Moreover, every visit to Maison K reveals treasures such as beloved candles, and exclusive Astier de Villatte white ceramics, each handcrafted in Paris, as well as an impressive collection of Etruscan revival charm bracelets and stunning baroque pearls.

"My travels through Europe and Asia ignited my passion for working with artisans who create beautiful things for our homes and wardrobes,” says Hayes in an interview with Noozhawk. “I am excited to bring my curated travel-inspired collections, which reflect the cultures, designs, and fashions I treasure.”
