Join the Celebration: TreesLouisville to Host Tree Planting Event on Saturday
TreesLouisville, a dedicated nonprofit organization celebrating its 10th anniversary, is inviting you to be a part of a transformative event this Saturday. With the planting of 100 new trees at Petersburg Park, located in the heart of Louisville’s Newburg neighborhood, this event marks the conclusion of this year’s planting season. Don’t miss it!
Event Details: A Day of Celebration and Community Engagement
This exciting tree planting event is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., coinciding with the national observance of Arbor Day. Arbor Day is a cherished holiday committed to celebrating trees while promoting their planting and preservation. As noted by TreesLouisville’s Program Director Morgan Grubbs, despite the challenges posed by recent historic floods in our local communities, the organization remains optimistic and committed to hosting the event as planned.
Why Attend? A Fun, Family-Friendly Experience Awaits!
Anticipated Attendance: Last year, the event drew a fantastic crowd of 1,000 participants, and this year, they hope to welcome 1,200 tree lovers and community members!
Activities: This family-friendly gathering will feature a variety of engaging activities, including tree and rock wall climbing, educational opportunities, and a chance to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts. In collaboration with local partners like Jefferson Memorial Forest, Urban Forestry, and Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation, there’s something for everyone!
Volunteer Participation: Approximately 100 volunteers will roll up their sleeves to help plant a selection of trees ideal for the park’s damp environment, including black gums, sweetgums, and bald cypresses.
TreesLouisville’s Impact: Transforming the Community
Since its inception in 2015, TreesLouisville has been on a mission to revive and expand the local tree canopy. Assessments have shown a significant drop in Louisville’s tree population, prompting the organization to take action. To date, they have:
- Planted over 13,000 trees
- Distributed around 11,000 trees to community members
- Pruned approximately 6,000 trees
The nonprofit has also partnered with more than 100 Jefferson County Public Schools, fostering an appreciation for nature among students and encouraging environmentally conscious practices.
Get Involved: Learn and Grow
TreesLouisville doesn’t just plant trees—they also want to empower the community. This May, they will host a tree pruning workshop aimed at educating the public on the importance of tree maintenance. Stay connected with TreesLouisville to learn about upcoming opportunities to get involved, including their regular tree giveaways.
Together, we can make a difference in our community and nurture the environment around us.
