Exciting Achievements by Colorado State University Track and Field Teams in California Meets

FORT COLLINS – The vibrant energy of Colorado State University (CSU) track and field shone brightly as the teams showcased their talents at two prominent meets in California on Thursday. Competing at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Pacific Coast Invitational, the Rams left their mark, with standout performances that are sure to ignite the enthusiasm of CSU supporters.

Spotlight on the Pacific Coast Invitational (Long Beach, Calif.)

Stellar Performances in Field Events

  1. Ismael Dembele and Jamison Taylor showed their prowess in the men’s triple jump, clinching the top two positions. Dembele soared to a personal best of 15.47 meters (50 feet 9.25 inches), a record that now stands as the second-best in Colorado State history! Closely following him, Taylor leaped to a remarkable 15.25 meters (50 feet 0.5 inches), marking him as the fifth athlete in CSU’s history to surpass 50 feet in this event.

  2. Stepping into her outdoor season debut, Mya Lesnar proved she’s a force to be reckoned with by winning the shot put with an impressive throw of 18.16 meters (59 feet 7 inches), a mark that would have ranked in the top three nationally at the beginning of the week. In the hammer throw, Lesnar clinched fifth place with a distance of 62.74 meters (205 feet 10 inches), positioning herself among the top 30 throwers in the country this season.

  3. Another shining star, Klaire Kovatch, delivered an inspiring performance in the women’s discus, achieving a throw of 57.42 meters (188 feet 4 inches). This incredible distance not only earned her second place but also established her as the top collegiate competitor, all while breaking her personal record and placing seventh on CSU’s all-time leaderboard.

  4. Makayla Long continued the momentum for the Rams, with two commendable top-10 finishes. She finished fourth in the women’s shot put with a solid throw of 15.95 meters (52 feet 4 inches) and sixth in the hammer throw, achieving a distance of 51.19 meters (167 feet 11 inches).

  5. In the men’s hammer throw, Adam Hellbom secured sixth place with an impressive mark of 62.31 meters (204 feet 5 inches), just shy of his personal best and sitting comfortably in CSU’s top 10 records.

  6. The high jump also saw brilliance, with Timothy Johnson and Rhys Travis both tying for third place, each measuring a height of 2.02 meters (6 feet 7.5 inches).

Track Talents Shine Brightly

  1. In the highly competitive men’s 5,000 meter, Michael Mooney dazzled audiences with a time of 13:37.55, further refining his personal best that already ranked top five in CSU history. His performance places him fourth overall in the Rams’ record books.

  2. Brooklyn Ewert also made waves, running an outdoor personal best in the women’s 800 with a time of 2:11.56, catapulting her into the top 15 of CSU’s all-time standings. Freshman Jaycee Williams also delivered an impressive performance in the same event, recording a personal best of 2:12.92, marking her as 20th in program history.

  3. Finally, Kenya Dennee clocked a thrilling 16:31.59 in the women’s 5k, finishing fourth in Open A Heat 2 and securing a place in the top 20 rankings of CSU’s history, joining teammates Anna Petr and Kensey May in this achievement.
