Fordham Golf Team Makes Its Mark at A-10 Championship: Day One Recap
ORLANDO, Fla. – The excitement is palpable as the Fordham golf team embarks on their quest for glory at the prestigious Atlantic 10 Championship held at the stunning Evermore Resort’s Grand Cypress Course. After a competitive opening round, the Rams find themselves in a tie for ninth place, sharing the spot with Saint Joseph’s at 16 over par.
A Competitive Field
With 12 teams vying for the title, Fordham is currently five strokes behind George Mason, which sits in the eighth position, and six shots adrift of Loyola Chicago in seventh place. Meanwhile, the Davidson Wildcats have taken command of the leaderboard, finishing the day at three under par, just ahead of Rhode Island, which holds the second spot.
Individual Standouts
As the dust settled on Day One, it was Richmond’s Carson Baez who emerged as the leader in the individual competition, firing an impressive four under with a score of 68. Among the Rams, senior Chris Konefal and freshman Patrick Ginnity led the charge, each carding a solid round of two-over 74.
Resilient Performances
Ginnity showcased remarkable resilience after a rocky start, finishing his last 10 holes in two under par featuring eight pars and two birdies. Konefal also found his rhythm on the inward nine, notching a birdie on the par-4 12th before brilliantly carding an eagle on the challenging par-5 13th.
Struggles and Hope
The Rams’ Jake Mrva and AJ DePaolo faced their own challenges on Tuesday, each finishing with a 78 (+6) and sharing 45th place. DePaolo’s round included impressive birdies on 12, 13, and 15, but a tough finish saw him struggle in the closing holes. In contrast, Mrva displayed determination, shooting two under on his last ten holes, highlighted by birdies on the ninth, 13th, and 15th holes.
In a tough opening day, sophomore Felix Luetke Meyring shot an 83 (+11), placing him in 58th.

As the Rams prepare for Day Two, they will resume competition tomorrow morning, teeing off on the ninth hole at 8:15 a.m. Fordham’s spirits remain high as they aim to improve their standing and make a strong push in this thrilling championship.
