(theACC.com) – The tennis courts of the Atlantic Coast Conference have witnessed exceptional talent this season, culminating in the announcement of the 2024-25 ACC Men’s Tennis awards on Thursday. As the excitement builds for college tennis, two standout performers have captivated both fans and coaches alike. Notre Dame’s junior Sebastian Dominko earned the prestigious title of 2024-25 ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, while Virginia’s freshman sensation Rafael Jódar claimed the title of Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Tony Bresky from Wake Forest has been recognized as the Coach of the Year.
Dominko: Dominance in Every Match
Making waves this season, Sebastian Dominko left an indelible mark on the court while securing First-Team All-ACC honors. His remarkable journey included a standout performance where he clinched victories against the No. 6 and No. 26 ranked players in the nation during the same weekend, earning him the title of ACC Player of the Week on March 25. With a dazzling 9-1 record in regular-season ACC play, Dominko has consistently shown his prowess at the No. 1 singles position, winning his first eight conference matches.
Impressive Overall Statistics
Ranked as high as No. 18 in the ITA Men’s Tennis Singles Rankings, the Maribor, Slovenia native amassed an incredible 19-4 record in singles play this spring, contributing to a total season tally of 27-8. Notably, he secured a stunning 10-4 record against nationally ranked players and boasted a strong 26-9 record in doubles play, primarily partnering with Chase Thompson.
Jódar: The Rising Star
In a fantastic debut season, Rafael Jódar shone brightly for the Virginia Cavaliers, playing a crucial role in their journey to the championship match of the 2025 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship. This freshman prodigy quickly garnered accolades, being named ACC Freshman of the Week four times and earning First-Team All-ACC recognition. Jódar climbed to remarkable heights, reaching No. 4 in the ITA Men’s Tennis Singles Rankings.
Unmatched Performance Metrics
Upon joining the team in January 2025, Jódar displayed his immense talent with a stellar 17-2 overall record in singles, including a flawless 8-0 mark in ACC competition. The Madrid native excelled on court one with a 13-1 record while also demonstrating versatility with a 4-1 record on court two. His impressive tally included an outstanding 12-1 record against nationally ranked opponents, highlighted by top-10 victories against formidable contenders.
Bresky: A Coaching Masterclass
Tony Bresky, the mastermind behind Wake Forest’s tennis program, was honored as the ACC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career, following similar accolades in 2013 and 2016. Under his guidance, the Demon Deacons achieved an impressive undefeated regular season record, clinching the outright ACC regular season title.
Achievements Worth Celebrating
Ranked No. 1 nationally in the ITA Men’s Tennis Team Rankings since February 20, Bresky’s leadership has propelled Wake Forest to a jaw-dropping 34-1 overall record, including a flawless 13-0 conference slate. The Deacons concluded their historic season by defeating TCU in a nail-biting match to secure the 2025 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship.
