Empowering Communities Through Culinary Art

This week, a beloved food truck tradition returns to the heart of Denver as the Civic Center EATS series kicks off in Civic Center Park. Designed to cater to lunchtime cravings, this initiative highlights the rich tapestry of flavors brought to you by diverse food trucks.

What to Expect from Civic Center EATS

Civic Center EATS will operate every Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a rotating lineup of food trucks. The spring season spans from May 14 to June 26, followed by summer from July 9 to August 28, and a fall run from September 10 to October 16.

More than a dozen food trucks will showcase their culinary delights, with a significant focus on women-owned and BIPOC-owned businesses. This initiative serves as a vital platform for these entrepreneurs, providing them with an opportunity to connect with a broader audience while gaining essential exposure.

Empowered Business Growth

The impact of Civic Center EATS is evident in the growth trajectories of participating businesses. Take, for instance, Picaera Puerto Rican Cuisine. Owner Erik Carballo credits this initiative for helping him secure more events and business opportunities: “It’s a good way to advertise my business,” he shares.

A Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Civic Center EATS extends beyond just food—it also offers a Youth Empowerment Academy. This program provides young individuals with invaluable experience, enabling them to learn essential skills while earning some extra cash in a supportive environment.

As Eric Lazzari, Executive Director of Civic Center Conservancy, aptly puts it: “So many of these are small, local entrepreneurs. Maybe this is their first business or early start in their journey, and it’s important that they have the opportunity right in the heart of the city to interact with the public, build their brand, and introduce people to their food.”
