No. 6 Texas Women’s Golf Team Shines in NCAA Championship, Advances to Match Play

CARLSBAD, Calif. — In a thrilling culmination of skill and determination, the No. 6 Texas Women’s Golf team secured its place in the match play of the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. After finishing seventh in the stroke play round on Monday, they are now poised to take on Oregon in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 9:40 a.m. CT (7:40 a.m. PT).

A Strong Finish

The Longhorns showcased remarkable talent and resilience, totaling 15 birdies on the day and completing the round at 3-over 291. This performance resulted in a four-round total of 8-over 1160. With Stanford claiming the top seed at an impressive 27-under 1125, the competition remains intense as Texas prepares for an uphill battle against Oregon, who secured the second position at 6-under 1146.

Spotlight on Standout Performers

Among the standout players, Lauren Kim led the charge with an impressive display, recording five birdies and finishing the final round at 1-over 73, ultimately landing at a commendable 2-under 286 overall. This achievement places her in a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard and marks her ninth top-15 finish this season.

Farah O’Keefe also shone brightly, carding four birdies and finishing even-par 72 for the day, culminating in an overall performance of 1-over 289, securing her a tie for 20th place.

Lineup Breakdown

  • Lauren Kim: With her remarkable five birdies, Kim solidified her position as a key player, finishing 2-under 286 overall.
  • Farah O’Keefe: O’Keefe’s steady even-par round helped her achieve a final score of 1-over 289.
  • Bohyun Park: Park battled through with three birdies but finished at 6-over 294 overall, tying for 40th.
  • Cindy Hsu: Hsu’s round of 2-over 74, featuring three birdies, places her at 8-over 296, tied for 47th.
  • Angela Heo: Heo’s strong effort with four birdies saw her finish at 11-over 299, earning her a spot at 60th.

The Coach’s Perspective

Laura Ianello, the head coach of the Longhorns, expressed her excitement about advancing to match play:
