Lim’s Season Concludes Amid Weather Disruptions at NCAA East First Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The excitement of the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championship East First Round was palpable, yet for Southeastern Louisiana University’s thrower Gabriel Lim, the day ended prematurely. Facing challenging conditions at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus, Lim delivered his final throws of the season during the men’s javelin competition on Wednesday.

Lim’s Javelin Journey

Competing in a fiercely competitive field, Lim stepped into the spotlight as part of the second group of four competitors. His journey began with a throw of 52.20 meters (171’3"), placing him in 22nd position initially. However, he swiftly moved up the leaderboard with a remarkable second throw measuring 58.74 meters (192’8"), elevating him to 17th place.

Despite his determination, Lim faced an unfortunate setback as his third throw resulted in a foul, preventing him from reaching the top 12 necessary to qualify for the finals. Ultimately, he concluded the day in 42nd place, bringing his season to a close.

Weather Woes: Shot Put Competition Delayed

Meanwhile, teammate Donroy Brown was preparing to showcase his skills in the shot put when ominous thunderstorms rolled into the area. This unfortunate weather forced a halt to all activities, leading to the postponement of both the shot put and pole vault events. The rescheduled competitions are tentatively set for Thursday, a day filled with high hopes and fresh opportunities.

Looking Ahead: Women’s Competitions

As the championship continues, attention shifts to the women’s events on Thursday. Lady Lions Onyah Favour and Esther Nwanze are eager to make their mark. Favour is set to sprint in the 400-meter dash at 7:25 p.m. EDT, while Nwanze will tackle the 400-meter hurdles at 8:20 p.m. EDT. Both athletes aim to finish in the top three of their heats to secure an automatic spot in Saturday’s quarterfinals. They also have a backup plan, as the fastest six times not qualifying directly will also advance.
