Spring Quarter Adventures: A Vibrant Bucket List Update

Unleash Your Inner Adventurer in San Diego!

The spirit of spring is alive and buzzing at UC San Diego, and our Lifestyle team is rejuvenating the traditional bucket list with thrilling updates! Are you ready to dive into adventures that will make your heart race and create memories that will last a lifetime? From mesmerizing flower fields to the vibrant world of lowriders, let’s explore what your fellow Tritons accomplished this season!

Visit the Imperial Sand Dunes

Kelly Loo, Former Lifestyle Co-Editor
Bucket List Item: Channeling her inner "Dune" dream at the Imperial Sand Dunes.

Update: "I can’t believe I did it! With the adventurous Amanda beside me, we embarked on a memorable 2.5-hour drive. Upon arrival, the unexpected happened — we stumbled upon Korean pop-rock band Day6 filming! Amidst the majestic dunes, we snapped photos, living out Amanda’s dream to be a photographer for The UCSD Guardian. While we didn’t pretend to summon any sandworms, the thrill of exploring new terrain made for an unforgettable experience."

Make My Spring Quarter Wish List Happen

Camelia Tzadok, Lifestyle Editor
Bucket List Item: Simple joys like breaking in her Doc Martens.

Update: "Mission accomplished! I ventured to Torrey Pines Gliderport for picnics — bonus: spotted a baby dolphin at Black’s Beach! My bracelet collection grew and a pinch of mischief added flavor to my spring. The Doc Martens? Still a work in progress, but that’s what summer is for!"

Go See the Chicano Park Lowriders

Julio Canimo, Senior Staff Writer
Bucket List Item: Attend the Southern California lowrider show during Chicano Park Day.

Update: "I broke my historical streak of flaking out and ventured to the festival! The glory of beautifully airbrushed lowriders lined the streets of Barrio Logan. Watching traditional Aztec dances while savoring delicious carne asada tacos is something I’ll cherish, especially as I prepare to leave San Diego. Can’t wait to come back!"

Frolic Through the Carlsbad Flower Fields

Naisha Nallakula, Senior Staff Writer
Bucket List Item: Witness the vibrant Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers.

Update: "We finally made it to the Carlsbad Flower Fields! The colors were so stunning they felt almost therapeutic. Though rain interrupted our frolic, it transformed our adventure into a magical experience with a rainbow overhead. Can’t wait to soak in this beauty again next year!"

Be More Spontaneous

Samantha Phan, Former Lifestyle Co-Editor
Bucket List Item: Unleash spontaneity, perhaps by clubbing in Tijuana.

Update: "While my plans didn’t include clubs, I joyfully embraced spontaneity! From a new dish at my favorite restaurant to a spontaneous trip to Mexico City, I’m feeling more alive than ever. As I graduate from UCSD, I’m stepping out into the world with a sprinkle of fun energy!"

Spend Time at My Neighborhood Park

Melanie Poppel, Staff Writer
Bucket List Item: Create a park routine filled with picnics and fun activities.

Update: "Despite not meeting every goal, I relished a lovely sunset at Kate Sessions Memorial Park. My cozy setup included a beach chair, a journal filled with overheard hilarities, and a refreshing Health-Ade kombucha. Summer is the season of my park era — or perhaps it will transition to beach escapades!"

Become an Academic Weapon

Jonathan Zhang, Senior Staff Writer
Bucket List Item: Achieve star-student status.

Update: "Let’s say this quarter didn’t unfold in my favor academically. However, I did take a deep dive into crypto trading! Staking everything on HELLYAHCOIN may not have been the best decision, especially as I face a daunting loss. But I remain optimistic — manifesting success for next quarter!"

Crush Iron Mountain

Hannah Jang, Contributing Writer
Bucket List Item: Tackle San Diego’s famous Iron Mountain trail.

Update: "On my 20th birthday, I took on Iron Mountain, the scene of my future triumph! After booking an Airbnb nearby, I confidently walked to the trailhead, albeit drenched by unexpected rain. Conquering Iron Mountain was more than a hike — it was a cathartic victory! ❤️"

Let’s Go, Tritons!

Maddie Almodovar, Contributing Writer
Bucket List Item: Experience a lively baseball game.

Update: "It’s been ages since sitting in bleachers, especially for anything other than concerts. So, when a friend suggested a Padres game at Petco Park, I jumped at the chance! Despite our team losing, the camaraderie and sunshine made for an exhilarating day!"

Windansea Beach Exploration

Alyssa Theurer, Contributing Writer
Bucket List Item: Discover the ultimate swimming beach.

Update: "After checking out various beaches, Windansea took the cake! The clear waters are perfect for swimming. 🌊 But watch out for the squirrels! They are almost as daring as ocean adventurers!"

San Diego Zoo Safari Park Excursion

Elisha Savalia, Contributing Writer
Bucket List Item: Relive childhood joy at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Update: "Though my friends and I haven’t made it to the zoo yet, I enjoyed witnessing the charm of sea lions while kayaking. As summer approaches, I’m set on organizing a trip — giraffe feeding, here I come!"

San Diego is bursting with adventure, and it’s clear our Tritons don’t just dream—they act! Spring Quarter has left its mark with unforgettable experiences. As you embark on your own adventures, which items will you add to your bucket list? Remember, the world is yours to explore!
