Four Bulls Shine on the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team
TAMPA, June 6, 2025 — The University of South Florida’s baseball program is celebrating a remarkable achievement as four standout players have been honored on the 2025 College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of Ryan Pruitt, Carlos Jacome, Rafael Betancourt, and Matt Rose.

The 2025 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators, honor the nation’s top student-athletes who excel both on the field and in their academic pursuits. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes honorees across NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA.
Spotlight on the Players
Ryan Pruitt is making waves in his first season with the Bulls, boasting a commendable .281 batting average with 61 hits, including 11 doubles and five home runs. His impressive stats also feature 41 RBIs and 31 runs, alongside a stellar record of 24 stolen bases in just 28 attempts. Pruitt’s knack for clutch performance was showcased in the season opener, where he hit a game-winning grand slam, leading the Bulls to a thrilling 5-4 victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Pruitt epitomizes the student-athlete ethos.
Carlos Jacome has also made a significant impact on the season. With a .309 batting average across 47 starts, Jacome accumulated 50 hits, including nine doubles, two triples, and four home runs. His consistent performance is highlighted by a standout game against Tulane, where he went 3-for-3 with multiple standout stats. Jacome is currently focused on earning his degree in Communications.
Rafael Betancourt, a key player in the lineup, recorded a .263 batting average with 47 hits in 45 starts. His versatility as a designated hitter shines through, particularly when he matched a program record with five hits in a single game against Memphis. Betancourt is also pursuing a degree in Finance, balancing academics with athletics.
Finally, Matt Rose completed the season with an outstanding .322 batting average, securing the second-best on the team. With 48 hits, seven doubles, and two home runs, Rose’s contributions were vital, including a game-winning home run in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Currently studying Marketing, Rose exemplifies what it means to be a leader on and off the field.

Under the leadership of Mitch Hannahs, who became the eighth head coach in program history in June 2024, the Bulls are building a promising future. Hannahs, a celebrated figure with over 355 wins at Indiana State, aims to guide the Bulls to new heights after a 26-29 season last year. With 24 new players, his impact is already evident.
A Legacy of Success: Celebrating 60 Years of USF Baseball
As the South Florida baseball program prepares to enter its 60th season in 2025, there’s a rich history to celebrate. Since their inaugural season in 1966, the Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and secured a Super Regional berth in 2023. With 11 conference titles to their name, including tournament honors in multiple conferences, the Bulls continue to strive for excellence on the diamond.
