QUINCY, Ill. – Each year, the Melrose Chapel Strawberry Festival transforms Quincy into a haven for strawberry aficionados. This year marked the 150th edition of this beloved event, attracting a diverse crowd eager to indulge in delightful strawberry-themed treats.
A Berry Delicious Experience
Running from 3 PM to 7 PM, the festival offered an inviting selection of strawberry desserts and treats that enticed everyone from families to foodies. As the scent of freshly baked goods wafted through the air, festival-goers delighted in options ranging from strawberry shortcake to mouthwatering strawberry ice cream.
In addition to the sweet treats, attendees could savor a variety of savory options, including sandwiches, chips, and refreshing drinks, either on-site or to-go, ensuring no one left hungry. The festival not only satisfied appetites but also contributed to the community, as half of the event’s proceeds benefitted Melrose Chapel, while the other half supported Horizon’s Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

J.T. Dozier, the Promotions Chairman, noted the excitement surrounding the event. "Hungry customers were lined up before we even opened," he said. The anticipation was palpable, leading to an early opening that delighted eager attendees. "Everyone was ready to go, and who wouldn’t be excited? Strawberries make everything better. If this were the Lima Bean Festival, it wouldn’t quite have the same appeal," Dozier explained with a chuckle.
Beyond the delectable food, the festival served as a vital gathering point for the Melrose family and the local community. "Any time we come together for a good cause, it brings that warm feeling of camaraderie," Dozier shared. From serving delicious strawberries to sharing fellowship, the festival embodies the spirit of community service. "We’re cooking in the kitchen and waiting on tables. It’s hard work, but we do it together for a great cause."
