A 24-Year-Old’s Neon Dream: Meet Violet Sky, the 1980s Lifestyle Maven

Embracing the Brilliance of the ’80s

Imagine waking up every day to a world brimming with color, flair, and unapologetic individuality. For Violet Sky, a spirited 24-year-old from Staten Island, this is more than a dream—it’s her vibrant reality. Though she never experienced the ’80s firsthand, she’s turned her passion for the decade into a thriving profession, captivating audiences with her unique take on nostalgia.

A Day in the Life of an ’80s Aficionado

Every aspect of Violet’s life embodies the exuberance of the 1980s. From her teased-up perm and iconic bangs to cruising around in her teal Camaro, she truly appears to have stepped out of a time capsule.

Every moment of every day. It’s just my lifestyle at this point,” shares Sky, who boasts over 324,000 followers on TikTok under the handle @glitterwave80s. “I wear at least one piece of acid-washed denim a day—and I’ve been really into the big hair.

Building an ’80s Empire on Social Media

Since launching her social media accounts, Violet has successfully partnered with beloved ’80s icons, including legendary bands like Def Leppard and Journey, and notable TV shows such as “Married with Children.” Her journey into the digital realm has solidified her role as a go-to source for all things ’80s fashion and culture.

Everything I do to make money relates to the ’80s in some way,” Violet states proudly. When she’s not curating content for her followers, she works at Flamingo’s Vintage Pound, a thrift shop in Chelsea, blending her passion with her profession.

From Screen Dreams to Vinyl Streams

A former music industry major from SUNY Oneonta, Violet also hosts a radio show on Maker Park Radio in Staten Island, spinning classic vinyl records. This year, she’s releasing her long-awaited album, "The Sky’s the Limit," a tribute to the infectious sounds of the ’80s.

I always appreciate when people that did live through the time tell me I’m doing it right,” she says, showcasing her authentic connection to the decade.

The Genesis of a ’80s Enthusiast

Violet’s obsession started with the 1985 film "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," where the bold fashion, energetic dancing, and contagious soundtrack resonated deep within her. Despite her parents not sharing her enthusiasm for the era—“They don’t really get it,” she laughs—Violet’s love was cultivated through the movies that inspired her youth.

In 2018, as a senior in high school, she launched her TikTok account. It gained substantial traction in 2020 after a viral post propelled her into the spotlight, earning 100,000 likes.

Capturing Hearts and Likes

Her most viral moment came from a video filmed in an unrenovated Taco Bell in Jersey City, showcasing the quintessential ’80s restaurant vibe.

People miss when public spaces were colorful. We live in a world where everything is slowly being painted grey, and it can be really depressing to look at,” she reflects.

Violet also ventured into music, collaborating with David Bravo, the keyboardist from her favorite synth-pop band, Shy Talk. His reach to her was serendipitous, inviting her to contribute her vocals to unreleased tracks.

A Meme Worth Mentioning

Violet’s eye for the quintessential ’80s vibe even landed her in meme territory after posting a photo in front of a Spencer’s sign that hadn’t been updated since the era.

Only ’80s kids will ever remember going to Spencer’s,” the meme quipped, calling attention to her youthful charm.

Thrifting for Authenticity

Violet’s incredible wardrobe mostly comes from Flamingo’s Vintage Pound, but she also hunts for fashion treasures at other vintage havens around NYC, such as L Train Vintage, Spark Pretty, and Beacon’s Closet. Her finds often include iconic brands like Jordache and Gitano.

While thrifting, I also pick out ’80s decor for my bedroom,” she shares, revealing her meticulously curated haven complete with Formica furniture and a vintage 1992 Magnavox TV to watch her beloved VHS tapes.

Fitting In with Eccentricity

In New York City, Violet’s exuberant outfits seamlessly blend into the eclectic fashion scene, proving that self-expression knows no bounds.

People don’t care as much because everyone’s dressing really eccentrically, so it’s kind of nice,” she remarks.

Conclusion: The Legacy of the ’80s Lives On

Through her passion, creativity, and authentic expression, Violet Sky not only keeps the spirit of the 1980s alive but also invites others to celebrate the decade along with her. By embracing the vibrancy of her favorite era, she has crafted a lifestyle that resonates with both nostalgia and modernity.

The ’80s may be decades behind us, but thanks to Violet Sky, their spirit is very much alive and thriving. If you’re ready to dive into this electric world, follow her journey on TikTok and Instagram. 🌟
