University of Tennessee Shatters Record with 145 Student-Athletes on Spring SEC Honor Roll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee (UT) has reached new heights in academic excellence this spring, showcasing an astounding 145 student-athletes on the 2025 Spring Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll. This remarkable achievement was unveiled by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and marks the highest total ever for UT during the spring semester.
A Commitment to Excellence
Tennessee Tailored, a dedicated support service that offers a comprehensive menu of programs for Vol and Lady Vol student-athletes, proudly highlights this achievement. The current tally of honorees is a remarkable increase of 10 from the previous record of 135 set in 2023, reinforcing the university’s commitment to excellence both in sports and academics.
SEC Honor Roy’s Expanding Influence
This year, a total of 1,700 student-athletes from various universities across the SEC were recognized for their academic accomplishments. This includes athletes from diverse sports, such as baseball, golf, softball, rowing, tennis, and track & field. The honor is based on academic performance in courses taken during the 2024 Summer, 2024 Fall, and 2025 Spring semesters.
Leading the Charge: Women’s Track & Field
Tennessee’s women’s track & field team led the charge with 41 student-athletes making the honor roll, an impressive increase of 21 from the last season. The rowing team followed suit, sending 34 representatives, while baseball, men’s track & field, and softball rounded out the top five categories.

Criteria for Academic Honors
For those unfamiliar with the SEC Academic Honor Roll, here are the essential criteria:
Grade Point Average: Undergraduate student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or above for the preceding academic year or maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at UT. Graduate students must also adhere to this GPA standard.
Summer School: Any courses taken during the summer must also be included in the GPA calculation for honor roll eligibility.
Eligibility: Student-athletes receiving an athletics scholarship, letter winners, and those who have participated in a varsity team for two seasons are eligible.
Academic Credit: Undergraduates must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit, while graduate students must meet specific credit thresholds as well.
- Team Participation: Athletes must have been part of a varsity team for the entire NCAA Championship segment to qualify.
