Embracing the Celebration
Following their crowning, the CCC royalty graced the activity room for a delightful photo session, radiating joy and camaraderie. As they prepared for the parade slated for Saturday with the CCC Royalty, Schupferling, reflecting on the honor, stated, “It’s overwhelming. It’s OK.” His infectious enthusiasm was palpable, and he humorously encouraged bystanders to bow in his presence.
A Journey Through Life
Scot Schupferling: From Alaska to Lompoc
At 66, Scot Schupferling has a rich life story. Born in Alaska while his father served in the U.S. Army, he made his way to Lompoc as an infant. A proud 1978 graduate of Cabrillo High School, Scot’s career journey took him from an assembly line worker at Piper Aircraft in Santa Maria to serving as a security guard at Vandenberg Space Force Base. His resilience and commitment are truly inspiring.
Frances Goyer: A Legacy of Service
Frances Goyer, originally Frances Flores, was born in Santa Paula in 1937. Moving to Lompoc with her parents and seven siblings, family and community have always been central to her life. Married to Terry Goyer in 1958, they have raised four children together. Frances’s dedication to serving others is evident from her time as the activities director at the Country Oaks Senior Center in Santa Maria. Expressing her surprise at the honor, she remarked, “It’s not believable. The Flower Festival was very important to us. We lived on J Street for years, so we were only a few blocks from the festival.”
Conclusion: A Community Celebration
The crowning of Scot Schupferling and Frances Goyer as the CCC Flower Festival King and Queen not only highlights their vibrant lives and contributions but also reinforces the importance of community events that honor our elders and celebrate local traditions.
