Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Shines: Alaimo and Galica Named IWLCA All-Americans
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The spotlight shines brightly on Virginia women’s lacrosse as two of its standout sophomores, Kate Galica and Madison Alaimo, have achieved the prestigious honor of being named to the 2025 IWLCA All-America teams. This announcement, made by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association on May 22, marks a significant milestone in their burgeoning careers.
Galica: A Force to be Reckoned With
Kate Galica’s remarkable season has culminated in her selection to the first team, showcasing her as one of the elite players in the league. This accolade highlights her outstanding season, which also includes recognition as a First Team Nike Lacrosse All-American and a second-team honoree by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Her achievements don’t stop there; she was nominated among 25 contenders for the coveted Tewaaraton Award and made history as the first player from Virginia to be voted the ACC Midfielder of the Year.
Record-Setting Performance
Galica has been a game-changer on the field, setting both the single-game and single-season records for draw controls at Virginia. She currently leads the ACC, ranking an impressive 11th in the nation with an average of 9.42 draw controls per game. Furthermore, she is the Cavaliers’ second-leading scorer, netting 47 goals this season.
Alaimo: Assists that Make History
Madison Alaimo has also made her mark, leading the team with an astonishing 80 points. She stands third in the ACC and eighth nationally in assists, averaging 3.05 assists per game. Her impressive performance throughout the season earned her a midseason spot on the esteemed Tewaaraton Watch List.
Trailblazing Achievements
In a standout show during the NCAA tournament’s first round against LIU, Alaimo set a new UVA single-game record for assists, dishing out an incredible nine assists. This performance tied the NCAA record for the most assists in a tournament game—an achievement that underscores her pivotal role in the Cavaliers’ success.
A Historic Year for Virginia Lacrosse
Galica’s recognition marks a significant moment in Virginia lacrosse history, as she is the first first-team All-American from the program since Sammy Mueller received the honor in 2019. Alaimo, earning her first career All-America award, was previously recognized as an honorable mention this year by both Nike Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine.
