Ayush Ministry Launches the Ayush Suraksha Portal: A Game-Changer in Tackling Misleading Ads

The Ministry of Ayush has recently unveiled a groundbreaking platform aimed at enhancing consumer safety and regulatory oversight in traditional medicine systems—the Ayush Suraksha Portal. This innovative digital initiative is designed to combat misleading advertisements and track adverse drug reactions (ADRs) through a centralized reporting and tracking system.

A Vigilant Watchtower Against Misinformation

On May 30, Union Minister of State for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, introduced the portal at Ayush Bhawan. He emphasized that this platform will serve as a "vigilant watchtower" against misinformation, empowering both consumers and healthcare professionals to report concerns directly. "Our goal is to protect the public and ensure the integrity of traditional medicine," stated Jadhav, highlighting the importance of this initiative.

Regulatory Framework and Judicial Backing

The Ayush Suraksha Portal is not just an isolated effort; it aligns with a Supreme Court directive issued in July 2024, which resulted from Writ Petition (Civil) No. 645/2022. The Court mandated the establishment of a mechanism enabling State Licensing Authorities to report complaints, facilitate inter-state referrals, and provide updates on actions taken. The Ministry has proactively launched this portal ahead of the June 2025 deadline set by the Court, reflecting its commitment to transparency and accountability.

Integrating Regulatory Bodies for Enhanced Monitoring

The Ministry has ingeniously designed the Ayush Suraksha Portal by integrating inputs from various regulatory bodies including:

  • Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)
  • Ministry of Information & Broadcasting
  • Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA)
  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

This robust collaboration enables real-time monitoring and facilitates data-driven decision-making for regulatory interventions. The public can now feel more secure, knowing that there is a comprehensive system in place aimed at protecting them.

Training for a Seamless Implementation

In preparation for the launch, a pre-launch training session was held in April for nodal officers from relevant agencies. This training has been pivotal in ensuring the coordinated implementation of the portal, laying the groundwork for its success.

User-Friendly Access for Transparency and Accountability

The Ayush Suraksha Portal is designed to be user-friendly, enabling:

  • Public users
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Regulatory authorities

to report misleading advertisements or ADRs seamlessly. Users will have the ability to track the status of their reports and view subsequent regulatory actions, fostering an environment of transparency and accountability within the Ayush ecosystem.

A Major Step Toward Enhanced Pharmacovigilance

This initiative marks a significant leap in enhancing pharmacovigilance within India’s traditional medicine sector. By empowering consumers and ensuring rigorous oversight, the Ayush Suraksha Portal is poised to contribute significantly to informed consumer choices and responsible market practices.

Conclusion: A New Era in Consumer Protection

As India embraces holistic and traditional medicine, the launch of the Ayush Suraksha Portal signals a new era in consumer protection. With innovative digital solutions and regulatory oversight, the Ministry of Ayush is making strides toward a safer healthcare landscape.
