Beverly Mahan Palmer, a beloved resident of Seaford, Delaware, passed away on April 11, 2025, after a brave battle with brain cancer. Born on November 22, 1953, she was the cherished daughter of Ralph and Mary Mahan and grew up surrounded by love alongside her three siblings.
A Foundation of Musicality and Community
Beverly, affectionately known as Bev, was a proud member of the Seaford High School Class of 1971. Her high school years were defined by a passion for music, showcasing her incredible talent as a flutist. Bev did not just play in the marching and concert bands; she also earned a prestigious spot in the County Band, demonstrating her deep commitment to her craft and her community.
After high school, she pursued her education with zeal, earning a degree from the University of Delaware and later obtaining her Master of Education from Wilmington College. For 30 years, Bev dedicated herself to teaching young minds in grades one through four, primarily at West Seaford Elementary, where she once walked the halls as a curious student.
A Heart for Service and Creativity
Bev’s spirit was deeply intertwined with her faith at St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she actively contributed her musical talents. From playing the flute with the choir to participating in the bell choir, her love for music remained a vital expression of her identity.
But beyond her musical pursuits, Bev was a true embodiment of an active lifestyle. She was an accomplished runner, cyclist, and swimmer, breaking multiple state records at the Delaware Senior Olympics—a testament to her determination and love for physical fitness.
Cherished Passions and Endearing Memories
Beverly was more than just a vibrant teacher and musician; she was a devoted family member and friend. Her passions reflected her zest for life—she adored the beach, was a fan of ‘60s and ‘70s music, traveled extensively, and created countless memories with her beloved cat, Gracie. She was a loyal supporter of her local teams, relishing the excitement of University of Delaware football games, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens, and enjoying memorable outings to Orioles games.
However, the greatest joy in her life came from her love for family, particularly her three cherished grandchildren, Caleb, Jacob, and Willa. Every moment spent with them was a treasure she held dear.
A Legacy of Love and Remembrance
Bev is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Ralph Palmer; her daughter, Jackie Palmer (Brian McEntee); her son, Adam Palmer (Hannah); her mother, Mary Mahan; loving siblings, including Brenda Johnson and Jennifer Temple (Doug); plus her brother, Jim Mahan (Peggy). She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Mahan, and her brother-in-law, Leslie Johnson.
Join us in honoring Bev’s remarkable life during the visitation at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. at St. John’s UMC in Seaford.
