Bryan ISD Launches Seamless Summer Food Program to Nourish Local Youth

Helping Kids Stay Fed This Summer

As the heat of summer approaches, families across Bryan, Texas, are preparing for a season filled with sunshine and adventure. Yet, amidst the excitement, some children face a pressing concern: where will their next meal come from? Thankfully, Bryan Independent School District (ISD) is stepping up to make sure no child goes hungry.

What is the Seamless Summer Food Program?

Bryan ISD is proud to announce its Seamless Summer Food Program, aimed at providing free breakfast and lunch to all children 18 and under. What’s even better? This initiative isn’t limited to just Bryan-College Station residents; children from nearby towns like Navasota are welcome too!

Easy Access, No Sign-Up Required

An incredible aspect of this program is its ease of access. There’s no registration needed—simply show up! Additionally, students enrolled in the district with disabilities can also partake in meals up until age 21.

Mark your calendars, as the program commences on June 2 and runs until July 18. Note that specific dates and meal times may vary based on location, so be sure to check the details in the provided document.

Behind the Program: A Word from Bryan ISD

Sandra Baxter from Bryan ISD shared insights about the program’s support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "The campuses hosting summer school will require families to check in at the front office for security," Baxter explained. "But aside from that, we simply want kids to come and enjoy their meals."

Continuity of Care for Nutritional Needs

"The beauty of the Seamless Summer initiative is that it allows us to continue meal services just as we do during the school year," Baxter elaborated. "Families with existing nutritional needs will find a place to receive the meals they rely on." This steadfast commitment to nourishment reinforces the community’s dedication to its youth’s welfare.

Food Superheroes: The Team Behind the Meals

Making this program a reality is the team of dedicated child nutrition employees at Bryan ISD. Baxter proudly recognizes them as "the same school lunch superheroes who work tirelessly throughout the school year." This summer, select representatives from this hardworking group will continue to serve the community’s kids.

What’s Happening in College Station?

In a similarly commendable effort, College Station ISD is preparing its own Summer Feeding Program, although specific dates are yet to be announced. Feeding sites will include Oakwood Intermediate and A&M Consolidated Middle School, along with additional public locations like South Knoll, College Hills, and the Lincoln Recreation Center.

Join Us in Our Community Efforts

In conjunction with Bryan ISD’s initiatives, KBTX is excited to support the community through the Summer Hunger Food Drive starting June 2. During this first week, we’ll be broadcasting live from local businesses, such as Paradowski Law, Aggieland Outfitters, Roofer Girl, Douglass, and Amarillo National Bank, collecting food and funds to benefit the Brazos Valley Food Bank.

All items collected during this month-long effort will directly support local hunger relief initiatives. You can also donate by dropping off items at the Brazos Valley Food Bank or at KBTX.

Take Action This Summer!

Let’s join hands as a community to ensure that all children in Bryan and College Station have access to the nutrition they need to thrive! For more information about meal locations or to get involved in our food drive, be sure to check local resources and news outlets as we work together to combat hunger in our region.

By spreading the word and participating in these initiatives, we can make a difference in the lives of countless families during this summer season. After all, no child should go hungry!
