Eliana Schneider, a rising senior at Cedar Crest High School, is a powerhouse in the world of track and field and an inspiring figure beyond the tracks. With a whirlwind of activities filling her days, one might wonder when she pauses to recharge. Surprisingly, despite her accolades, she finds joy in simply doing as much as possible.
An Athlete’s Triumph
In June, Eliana celebrated a monumental achievement by winning the javelin competition at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships in Philadelphia, launching the spear an impressive 147 feet and 3 inches. This victory underscores her remarkable journey, which includes four Lancaster-Lebanon League championships, seven District Three medals, and three PIAA medals.
Overcoming Challenges
The path to success hasn’t been without its hurdles. This spring, Eliana showcased her resilience by returning to competition after battling illness. As the anchor of the district champion 3,200 relay team, she helped secure victory alongside teammates Audrey Fugate, Hayden Wamsher, and Emma Pavlesich. Despite facing physical setbacks, she managed finishes of second in javelin and fifth in high jump at districts, followed by fourth and sixth place finishes at states.
A Multifaceted Talent
Eliana isn’t just a standout athlete—her talents extend beyond the track. She expresses her creativity through music, playing the viola in the school orchestra and strumming her guitar at home. With a dream of picking up the banjo as her next musical venture, she’s clearly a dynamic individual seeking diverse experiences.
Literary Passions
In her downtime, Eliana immerses herself in books, particularly favoring dystopian novels and historical fiction. Her love for reading parallels her diverse hobbies, underscoring her appreciation for a rich, varied life.
The Support System Behind Success
Eliana’s achievements are bolstered by a supportive family. Her parents, Hans and Beth Schneider, are avid athletes themselves—Hans participates in mountain biking and trail running, while Beth engages in various trail races. This active lifestyle has instilled a sense of adventure in Eliana and her younger sister, Clara, a promising distance runner as well.
A Lasting Legacy
Reflecting on Eliana’s journey, Cedar Crest coach Rob Bare noted, “The legend grows on Eliana.” His admiration for her determination is echoed by classmates, including fellow athlete Kaddel Howard, a three-time state champion. “If she really wants something, she’s going to work for it. She’s serious about the sport, and I know she’s going to accomplish big things,” Howard said.
Setting New Goals
Looking ahead, Eliana is setting her sights on the heptathlon for college, which encompasses a wide range of events including the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 800 meters. Having already competed in two heptathlons, where she scored a personal best of 4,260 points, it’s clear she is eager to elevate her game further.

With interest from prestigious colleges like Duke, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Bucknell, Eliana is poised for exciting opportunities ahead. While campus visits are yet to be scheduled, the anticipation is palpable.
