**100 Years of Wisdom: Etta Williamson’s Vibrant Journey Through Life**

Meet **Etta Williamson**, a remarkable centenarian who embodies resilience and vitality at the age of 100. Her journey, filled with wisdom and tenacity, inspires those around her as she continues to lead an **active lifestyle** in Wallens, Linstead, St. Catherine.

**Rooted in Rich Heritage**

Born on **May 13, 1925**, in the Dunkeld district of Troja, St. Catherine, **Etta** grew up on a farm surrounded by family. With a nurturing grandmother, two aunts, and supportive siblings, she learned essential life skills early. After moving to Wallens following her father’s passing, her upbringing laid the foundation for her expertise in selecting fresh produce, an activity she passionately enjoys today.

“I shop, I don’t buy. Young people don’t shop, they buy,” Etta shares with a twinkle in her eye. “They don’t care about prices; they just want it all!”

**A Master at Shopping**

Her **shopping philosophy** stems from her country roots. Etta prides herself on comparing prices and knowing where to find the best quality products. “Is country I come from, so I know which one is good,” she adds with laughter, showcasing her wit alongside her wisdom.

**Independence at Its Finest**

In addition to her weekly market excursions, Etta is fiercely independent. She personally handles her cooking and laundry, relying only on her grandchildren for heavier tasks. “You don’t need a machine for clothes you wore just for one day,” she insists, showcasing her preference for traditional methods. This dedication to maintaining her independence is truly inspiring.

**A Lifelong Passion for Learning**

Reading and **embroidery** bring joy to Etta’s life. Having inherited her mother’s tailoring skills, she once sold her embroidered creations. Now, she crafts them as gifts for loved ones, preserving the art form and sharing her creations with family and friends.

**The Secrets to a Long Life**

When asked about her longevity, Etta humbly credits her **health** to God, alongside a love for fruits and vegetables, and the long walks of her youth. With a plethora of life experiences under her belt—including careers in nursing, garment production, and teaching—her journey has been anything but ordinary.

**A Dedicated Educator**

After earning her teaching credentials from **Mico University College**, Etta embarked on a rewarding teaching career, commuting seven miles daily—sometimes by chartered rides but often on foot. “I walked the seven miles every morning and evening,” she recalls with pride.

“I love helping children achieve their dreams,” Etta reflects, recalling her proudest moments as a teacher.

**Transforming Young Lives**

One of her significant achievements was helping a student labeled as “not ready” rediscover her potential and return to her class within three months. “I realized her parents couldn’t read, so they didn’t know how she was doing,” Etta explained, a soft smile crossing her face. This compassionate approach exemplifies her dedication to education and nurturing future generations.

**Family Values and Gratitude**

Etta treasures her family, proudly sharing her legacy of two children, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Her late husband, **Richard Williamson**, remains a fond memory she cherishes alongside her deep faith. At her centennial birthday celebration, Etta reflected on her life with abundant gratitude, proclaiming:

“It’s good to be 100 years old because God has kept me.”
