Discover Shaver Hall: NYC’s New Food Hall and Entertainment Oasis

When the iconic Lord & Taylor closed its doors at 424 Fifth Avenue in 2018, many New Yorkers felt a sense of loss for the historic department store. But fret not! The landmark space is set to be reborn as Shaver Hall, a dazzling new food hall and entertainment complex designed to celebrate the vibrant culinary culture of New York City while honoring the legacy of Lord & Taylor.

A Fresh Take on Culinary Experiences

What to Expect at Shaver Hall

Slated to open by the end of this year, Shaver Hall will span a remarkable 35,000 square feet. According to Sean Dillon, part of the strategic development team, this project has been in the works for over three years. "We see Shaver Hall as a chance to reimagine the food hall experience in midtown—creating a space built for connection, community, and culinary discovery," shares Randy DeWitt, co-founder of The Food Hall Co.

The excitement continues as 11 curated food stalls will populate the hall, alongside a central bar and two anchor restaurants: a steakhouse and a wine and cheese bar. Additionally, a 12-seat omakase eatery and a modern bodega, featuring quick snacks and high-quality coffee, will cater to a variety of tastes.

A Culinary Lineup that Celebrates Diversity

Each stall has been meticulously selected to highlight the best of New York’s diverse food scene. Among the confirmed vendors are:

  • F&F Pizzeria from Brooklyn
  • Chick Chick, famed for its Korean-inspired fried chicken
  • Taqueria Al Pastor for authentic Tacos
  • ZaZu, Tonchinette by Tonchin, and Pasta Sole, known for its viral parm wheel pasta dish

This impressive lineup aims to not only satisfy hunger but also celebrate the city’s thriving culinary culture, making it a must-visit for food lovers!

Unique Features to Enhance Your Experience

One of the standout features that sets Shaver Hall apart is its concert stage, which will host performances featuring local artists, thereby enriching the New York-centric music scene. While the lineup remains in development, Dillon notes that they aim to incorporate a variety of events, from music shows to fashion shows and comedy nights.

"We’re committed to offering a dynamic entertainment program seven days a week," he adds with enthusiasm.

A Nod to a Trailblazing Legacy

The naming of Shaver Hall pays homage to Dorothy Shaver, the first president of Lord & Taylor and a pioneer for women in leadership roles. Dillon highlights her significant contributions: "She was instrumental in shaping the concept of department stores, introducing food and beverage options that were groundbreaking for the time. She opened a café, which was revolutionary, and focused on American designers."

Shaver’s legacy as a trailblazer serves as an inspiration for the modern vision of Shaver Hall, ensuring that every aspect of the new food hall embodies the spirit of innovation and community she championed.

Conclusion: A New Chapter Awaits

As we await the grand opening of Shaver Hall, anticipation builds for this new food hall and entertainment destination. With an exciting culinary lineup, innovative features, and a commitment to celebrating New York’s diverse culture, Shaver Hall promises to be a vibrant hub for both locals and visitors alike.
