The Future of Montgomery Business in Jeopardy Following Weekend Violence

Montgomery’s Business Landscape Under Scrutiny

In the heart of Montgomery, the Precise Center Clubhouse finds itself embroiled in controversy after a weekend shooting and hit-and-run incident that left one person in critical condition. This troubling event has raised questions: Is the Precise Center truly a conference facility, or has it transformed into an unregulated nightclub?

A Tense Council Meeting Sets the Stage

This incident comes on the heels of a recent city council meeting where Danielle Holmes, the owner of the Precise Center, faced off against concerned council members. With reports of the business operating until the early hours—up to 4 a.m.—the council is taking a hardline approach.

Councilman Andrew Szymanski’s Strong Remarks

Councilman Andrew Szymanski has been vocal in his criticism, suggesting that the violent episode reveals the true nature of the establishment. “They stood in front of the council and they told us a lie,” he asserted. “Conference centers are not places where we see this kind of violence; they are not nightclubs.”

Owner’s Defense: Separation from the Incident

Despite the allegations, Holmes argues that the incident had nothing to do with the operations of her business. “We closed up around 11 o’clock that night, hours before the violence erupted,” Holmes told WSFA. “The disturbance happened due to loitering in the parking lot after we were closed.”

Transparency and Accountability Questions

Holmes insists that she relinquished control over the space once it was rented. “When they rent it out, I have no control over what goes on inside. I just rent the space,” she explained. When pressed further about the nature of the gathering, she simply stated, “A gathering.”

Legal and Community Implications

Szymanski, however, believes that Holmes’ lack of awareness may not absolve her of responsibility. “If you’re just renting out your building, that doesn’t make you void of liability,” he cautioned. “It is your property, and what happens inside and immediately outside those doors falls under your purview.”

Safety Measures in Question

While Holmes maintains that her business is equipped with surveillance cameras, she has declined to share the footage with WSFA, stating she would comply only if the police requested it. This reluctance only adds to the growing skepticism surrounding the operations of the Precise Center.

The Path Forward for Montgomery’s Business Community

As concerns around safety and regulation escalate, the future of the Precise Center Clubhouse hangs in the balance. Will local leaders enforce stricter regulations to ensure community safety, or will the status quo remain?
