Augusta, Ga. – The atmosphere was electric as the No. 1 Texas Men’s Golf team showcased their exceptional talent and determination at the esteemed Augusta Haskins Award Invitational. Delivering a scintillating performance, the Longhorns shot a remarkable 11-under par 277 in the final round, finishing in a thrilling tie for first place with No. 5 Oklahoma State. Their overall 54-hole score of 20-under 844 (281-286-277) secured their fourth team title of the season.

With this victory, Texas has continued to build on an impressive spring campaign, having secured four victories, alongside a runner-up finish and a solid third-place effort in their first six tournaments. This recent success reaffirms the team’s stature as one of the premier golf programs in the nation.
A Final Round to Remember
Sunday’s round began with Texas sitting in third place, trailing No. 13 Illinois by just two strokes. As play unfolded, the competition improved, tightening the race among the top teams. By the day’s midpoint, both No. 9 North Carolina and Notre Dame fell from contention, setting the stage for an intense showdown among Texas, Oklahoma State, and Illinois.
The Longhorns surged ahead in the final stretch. Christiaan Maas, a key player for Texas, ignited his team’s momentum with a brilliant birdie on the par-five 17th before sealing his round with an impressive 15-foot eagle putt on the par-four 18th, concluding at 5-under 67. Fellow junior Tommy Morrison added to the excitement with his own eagle on 17, followed by a short birdie on 18, finishing with a score of 2-under 70.
The Final Standings
With their dramatic performances, the Longhorns and Cowboys drew level at 20-under on the team leaderboard. Illinois finished third at 15-under 849 (285-280-284). The final day witnessed a thrilling showcase of talent, as five teams from the top 25 in the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd (as of April 2) vied for supremacy.
Individual Highlights
On the individual leaderboard, North Carolina’s David Ford and Illinois’s Max Herendeen both shone brightly, finishing at 12-under 204. Ford ultimately claimed medalist honors with a clutch birdie on the first playoff hole, while Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout secured third at 11-under 205.
Leading the charge for Texas were Maas, Morrison, and freshman Daniel Bennett, who all tied for ninth with a score of 4-under 212. Each athlete displayed agility and precision throughout the tournament, further solidifying Texas’s dominance this season.
