Google Search Live

Among the cutting-edge innovations unveiled during Google I/O 2025, the futuristic “Search Live” experience stood out as a pivotal leap into the future of AI-driven search. Imagine engaging in a real-time, interactive conversation, where Google isn’t just responding to queries but engaging with users in a dynamic dialogue. It’s not just search; it’s the dawn of a new era in conversational technology!

Now, as reported by 9to5Google, Google is officially rolling out this transformative feature for select users. With its roots in Project Astra (the same innovative technology behind Gemini Live), Search Live aims to redefine our understanding of digital inquiry, turning the conventional search bar into a fluid conversational partner.

How Search Live Works

For users who have this feature available, launching the Search Live experience is as effortless as tapping a new waveform icon under the main search bar, which beautifully replaces the previous Google Lens shortcut. Alternatively, when in AI Mode, a circular button appears to guide you into this engaging experience.

Upon activation, users are greeted by a sleek, fullscreen interface featuring a vibrant, animated Google-colored waveform that dances as you speak. Pill-shaped buttons for “Mute” and “Transcript,” along with a three-dot menu offering voice options like Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini, make for a truly immersive experience.

Conversational Interactivity at Its Best

The interaction promised by Search Live is not just an upgrade; it’s a reimagining of how we search. Users can pose questions and receive informative answers while simultaneously accessing a scrollable carousel of sources. Impressively, Google can also ask follow-up questions to refine your input, maintaining the conversation’s flow. In a particularly innovative twist, you can exit the Google app, yet your dialogue continues seamlessly in the background!

What’s Available Now and What’s Coming Next

It’s crucial to temper expectations with this initial rollout. While the voice-based conversational experience is groundbreaking, it does not yet encompass the full suite of capabilities demonstrated during I/O. Currently, users can engage in spoken dialogue, receive vocal replies, and review source links.

However, the much-anticipated camera functionality—allowing users to stream live video and interactively inquire about their visual surroundings—remains unavailable at this stage. For those features, you’ll need to utilize the Gemini app for now.

This marks a monumental shift in our interaction with Google Search. Transitioning from a mere tool for information retrieval to a genuine conversational partner is revolutionary. The future of search is being shaped before our eyes, and we eagerly await the completion of this full-fledged experience, camera and all. So, keep a close watch on your Google app—you might just snag an early glimpse into the future of search!
