The Georgetown University track & field team showcased their exceptional talent and determination at the Duke Invitational this past weekend, leaving a significant mark in Durham, North Carolina. Over two exhilarating days, the Hoyas not only demonstrated their athletic prowess but also set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
Outstanding Performances: Women’s Steeplechase Highlight
One of the standout performances of the weekend came from Barrett Justema, who astoundingly claimed first place in the women’s steeplechase. Her personal-best time of 10:20.02 not only secured her victory but also etched her name in Georgetown’s outdoor track and field record book, ranking sixth all-time. Justema’s triumph underscores her hard work and preparation, highlighting the potential for even more remarkable achievements in her athletic career.
Day One Results: Women Take Center Stage
- Women’s Steeplechase: Justema’s sensational time of 10:20.02
- Women’s 1500 Heat 3: Sally Binder finished as the top Hoya with a time of 4:44.15.
- Women’s 5000 Heat 2: Mia Pasha clocked in at 17:51.00.
Men’s Results: Efforts and Progress
As the competition continued into Day Two, the men’s team put forth their best efforts, with some commendable finishes:
- Men’s 800: Matthew Griffin secured a 17th-place finish, crossing the line at 1:51.83, while Denis Gallagher followed closely in 31st place with a time of 1:52.93.
- Men’s 200: Aaron Guilaume showcased his speed, clocking a time of 21.93.
Women’s Day Two Triumphs
The women continued to impress on the final day as well:
- Women’s 4×100 Relay: The Hoyas sprinted to fifth place with a time of 46.45 seconds.
- Women’s 400: Rebecca Ochan shone with a seventh-place finish at 53.72 seconds.
- Women’s 800: Angeline Caamano finished tenth in a competitive race, clocking in at 2:09.27.
- Women’s 200: Again, Ochan showcased her versatility with a sixth-place finish at 23.88, while teammates Abbie Huey (22nd, 24.48) and Jadah Fitzgerald (25th, 24.67) also turned in solid performances.

The team will head to Charlottesville, Virginia, from April 18 to April 19 to compete in the Virginia Challenge.
