April 21, MUNCIE, Indiana – In an exhilarating display of talent and grit, the Northern Illinois University Huskies women’s golf team made significant strides on Day 2 of the 2025 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships. Thanks to an outstanding performance by Alexa Ouellet, the team vaulted up the leaderboard, securing a coveted second-place position.
Remarkable Individual Performance
Ouellet, hailing from Toronto, Ontario, delivered the day’s best round, finishing with an impressive 71 (one under par). This stellar score, achieved under challenging conditions, not only propelled her into a four-way tie for third but also showcased her rising prowess in collegiate golf. With four birdies recorded on the front nine, Ouellet’s phenomenal performance was instrumental in the Huskies climbing five spots on the leaderboard.
Team Effort Elevates NIU
As a unit, the Huskies collectively notched ten birdies on the front nine, leading to a strong team score of 304 for the round—the second-best of the day. NIU’s strategy of focusing on consistency paid off, as all five team members performed remarkably, ensuring that each one recorded scores at or below 79.
Coach Kim Kester expressed her satisfaction with the team’s tenacity and execution. "With a tight leaderboard, we were excited about the early tee time today," she said. "The conditions mirrored what we’ve faced this spring, and our ladies really stepped up. We’re eager to keep this momentum going into the final round."
Key Contributions from Teammates
In addition to Ouellet’s exceptional play, Mia Raines of Galena, Ohio, also made her mark. Raines finished the day five-over par, landing her in a tie for seventh place after starting strong with a solid round the previous day. Caroline Kent from Frisco, Texas, made strides of her own by climbing seven spots thanks to two birdies, finishing the day similarly at five-over par.
Contributions also came from Dakota Tallent and Emma Thorman, who each carded a seven-over performance, showcasing the depth of talent on the NIU roster. The camaraderie of the team shone through, as multiple players birdied the same holes, sharing the thrill of the game.
