Born on **December 30, 1930**, in **rural Rock Valley, Iowa**, John was the son of Evert and Fannie (Driesen) Brands. His childhood was filled with joyful moments spent fishing with his father and riding bicycles through the scenic countryside, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
His love story with Mary began during their youth, filled with **roller-skating** and **square dancing**. The couple solidified their bond on **March 25, 1954**, at Mary’s family home near **Ellsworth, Minn.** Their journey together took them across various farmsteads in southwest Minnesota before they settled on an acreage west of **Kenneth, Minn.**, establishing roots that would flourish.
#### **Faith in Adversity**
The couple faced unimaginable heartache with the loss of their first three children: **Freida May**, **Walden Lee**, and **Frieda Lenae**, who passed away at tender ages. Their unwavering faith was a guiding light through these dark times, reminding them of the strength found in love and community.
#### **Transitioning to New Chapters**
In the early **1990s**, John made the difficult decision to retire from dairy farming. However, his passion for agriculture did not end there; he continued crop farming until **2010**. The couple then transitioned into an apartment in **Edgerton** in **2015**, marking a new phase in their lives.
