Andy Wei from Slater + Gordon elaborated that the firm is committed to investigating whether Google has unlawfully misused its market power to exclude competing exchanges, leading to inflated pricing.

“Although the display ad market is theoretically open to all, it’s largely controlled by Google,” he pointed out. “It’s like a black box; bidders end up paying whatever Google dictates.”

Google’s Response to Allegations

In response to these allegations, Google has refuted claims of operating a monopoly in advertising technology. Lee-Anne Mulholland, Google’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, maintains that publishers choose Google for its "simple, affordable, and effective" ad tech tools.

"Publishers have many options; our tools help them achieve their goals," Mulholland argued, insisting that there remains intense competition in the ad tech landscape.
