Lehigh Women’s Golf Team Shines at the ECU Ironwood Invitational
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Lehigh women’s golf team showcased their skills at the ECU Ironwood Invitational, competing fiercely against a competitive 16-team field at the stunning Ironwood Golf and Country Club. With solid performances from multiple players, the Mountain Hawks concluded the tournament with a combined score of 943 (316-318-309), finishing in 14th place.
Stellar Individual Performances
Freshman Phenomenon: Reese Hannon
Leading the charge for Lehigh was first-year standout Reese Hannon. Hannon delivered the low round of the tournament for the Mountain Hawks, registering an impressive 74 on her final day. This commendable performance propelled her to a tie for 42nd place with a cumulative score of 232 (80-78-74). Hannon’s round was marked by 14 pars, one birdie, and only three bogeys, illustrating her consistent ability to manage the challenging course conditions.
Strong Contributions from Upperclassmen
Not to be outdone, Yuki Zhu, a junior and seasoned competitor, finished strong, tying for 59th place at 235 (76-80-79). Zhu’s final round included a birdie, showcasing her talent and tenacity. Equally impressive was senior Madison Pineda, who mirrored Zhu’s performance with a tied finish of 59th (80-78-77) thanks to a pair of birdies on Tuesday.
Emerging Talent on the Team
First-year golfer Alana Hall also had a standout outing, leading the team with three birdies on Tuesday. Her efforts settled her in a tie for 81st place at 243 (80-84-79).
Meanwhile, sophomore Bella Scanapicco finished in 89th place with a score of 260 (88-82-90). Competing as an individual, senior Olivia Lu concluded her tournament in 90th place with a score of 263 (90-89-84).
Championship Insights
Claiming the team title was Virginia Tech, who triumphed with a remarkable score of 875 (294-289-292), finishing six strokes ahead of the host team, East Carolina. The spotlight also shone on NC State’s Marie Madsen, who captured the individual medalist honors with a stunning score of six under par (210) (70-71-69), outpacing Virginia Tech’s Morgan Ketchum by three strokes.
Upcoming Challenges
Looking ahead, the Mountain Hawks will seek to build on their experiences as they prepare for the Rutgers Invitational, set to take place on April 5-6 in Piscataway, New Jersey. With the promise of continued development and determination, Lehigh is poised to make its mark in the upcoming season.
