Nurturing the Future: Meet Louisiana’s Top Young Farm Woman
In the heart of Melville, Louisiana, Courtney Gerace is a shining beacon of dedication and resilience. This remarkable woman balances the demands of farm life with the challenges of raising five children—all while pioneering a life she never knew she wanted until she married her husband, Nicholas.
A New Journey Begins
It was during the annual Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans that Courtney was honored as Louisiana’s top young woman farmer. This accolade wasn’t just a recognition of her hard work; it was a testament to her commitment to a lifestyle that she now can’t imagine living without.
"This lifestyle teaches humility, responsibility, and accountability," Courtney shared in an interview with the USA Today Network.
The Gerace family farm spans the picturesque landscapes of St. Landry Parish, producing crops like sugarcane and raising cattle, all while nurturing their spirited children, aged between 4 and 12.
Driven by Passion
At the core of Courtney’s devotion lies a profound love for agriculture.
"I’m driven by agriculture and the passion that comes with living this lifestyle," Courtney explained. "It gives me and my family the chance to be part of something bigger than ourselves."
Interestingly, Courtney didn’t grow up on a farm, but her heart seemed destined for this life.
"I had no idea the lasting lessons I’d derive from livestock judging, public speaking, and showing horses," she recalled. "Then I married my husband. He has farmed his whole life, and I know why. No matter how you arrive at it, if farming is in you—it’s in you."
Hands-On and Heartfelt
Courtney’s contributions to the farm are as diverse as they are vital. From feeding livestock and processing calves to baling hay and managing equipment logistics, her hands-on involvement is crucial. Yet, her responsibilities extend far beyond physical labor.
She also navigates the complexities of homeschooling her children, making daily decisions that shape the future of their family and farm.
"My contributions are centered on doing what is necessary to be the best resource to my husband as his coworker and partner in life," Courtney affirmed. "Farming takes dedication in the field, out of the field, and on Capitol Hill. Between the crops, the cows, and our five kids, there is constant growth."
A Role Model for Future Generations
As a proud woman in agriculture, Courtney Gerace embodies the spirit of modern farming. Her journey serves as an inspiration, reminding us that one’s path to fulfillment can often be unexpected.
Courtney’s story exemplifies how commitment to agriculture can lead to a fulfilling life filled with valuable lessons—not just for the farmer, but for the entire family.
