MacQuiddy and Goode Shine at NCAA Quarterfinals

Garrett MacQuiddy and Johnny Goode have put on a dazzling display at the NCAA West Regional Championships, advancing to the quarterfinals with outstanding performances in a fiercely competitive field. This event, hosted at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium, has showcased the depth and talent of California’s track and field team.

Strong Start for the Golden Bears

On May 28, 2025, the excitement was palpable as ten Golden Bears athletes took to the track, each vying for a coveted spot in the NCAA Championships. With dozens of elite competitors in the mix, it was a true test of speed, strength, and determination.

MacQuiddy’s Impressive Qualifying

The spotlight quickly turned to Garrett MacQuiddy, who was the first to secure his place in the quarterfinals. Displaying remarkable speed and strategic prowess, MacQuiddy clocked an impressive 3:50.92 in the 1500m, finishing 4th in his heat. This remarkable performance not only earned him a qualifying spot but highlighted his potential to make waves at the upcoming championships.

"Garrett’s kick showcased not only his speed but his tenacity. He’s a prime contender for the finals," remarked a team coach.

Goode’s Nail-Biting Finish

Later in the evening, Johnny Goode followed suit with a thrilling performance in the 400m. His swift finish at 46.01 secured him a third-place finish in his heat, thereby confirming his progression to the quarterfinals as well. Both athletes displayed exceptional resilience under pressure, proving they have what it takes to compete at this high level.

Notable Performances Despite Missed Opportunities

While MacQuiddy and Goode celebrated their success, other team members faced challenges in their respective events.
