Ryan Moore Rides Toward Glory: Lambourn Leads the Charge in the Irish Derby

World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore is gearing up for an exhilarating showdown as he takes the reins of the formidable Lambourn in the prestigious Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby this Sunday. This marks the return of World Pool to Ireland, following five thrilling days at Royal Ascot.

Moore’s Faith in Lambourn

Moore, who boasts six rides on the Irish Derby card, has full confidence in Lambourn as the leading contender. In his insightful World Pool blog, he stated: “It was no real surprise that LAMBOURN won at Epsom after a stellar performance in a trial at Chester.”

He elaborated, “He’s an uncomplicated horse that stays exceptionally well, and now everyone is out to beat him. With the best form in the race, he definitely has a target on his back, but I wouldn’t trade him for any other horse in the field.”

Challengers Await

Moore anticipates some worthy challengers, noting, “Tennessee Stud is expected to improve from his third place finish at Epsom, and the Johnston team likely feels that Lazy Griff is still on the upswing. While they pose evident dangers, my loyalty lies firmly with Lambourn.”

He also praised Puppet Master, a horse they have long admired, but emphasized, “Lambourn is the clear form choice in this competition.”

The Thrill of World Pool at the Curragh

The Irish Derby, a proud member of the IFHA Top 100 races, will showcase all nine races from the Curragh, globally commingled for the third consecutive year. This year’s event promises to deliver thrilling betting opportunities for punters across more than 28 countries with seven World Pool bet types including Win, Place, Quinella, and the exciting Treble.

Last Year’s Highlight

Last year’s edition saw Los Angeles clinch a historic win for legendary trainer Aidan O’Brien, marking his 16th triumph in this elite competition. O’Brien’s notable victory not only thrilled fans but was also recognized as the World Pool Moment of the Day, with groom Sumith Pathrannelage awarded a lucrative €4,000 winner’s cheque.

Points Race: World Pool Jockeys’ Championship

All riders on Irish Derby Day will have a chance to earn points in the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship, where winning points are influenced by World Pool Win odds. Currently, Oisin Murphy leads the championship with an impressive 114.40 points, closely followed by Kieran Shoemark (63.55) and World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore (52.60).

Industry Voices on the Event

Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, expressed his excitement: “Returning to Ireland for a third year for Irish Derby Day is fantastic! We are eager to bring all races from the Curragh, particularly the historic Irish Derby, to our global community of punters.”

Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of the Curragh Racecourse, added: “We are thrilled to host World Pool once again for Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day. The expanded pool sizes promise exceptional value for punters, and we anticipate a day full of competitive racing this Sunday.”
