This final regular-season match will take place at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center in Cincinnati, and the Mountaineers are eager to conclude their season on a high note.
Facing the Challenge: Mountaineers’ Recent Struggles
With a record of 7-16 and 1-11 in the Big 12, the Mountaineers are looking to shake off a challenging stretch, having lost their last three matches. Most notably, they faced fierce competition, suffering defeats against the highly ranked #15 Texas Tech and Colorado in their recent home encounters. The team is motivated to turn the tide against a familiar rival.

Despite recent setbacks, the Mountaineers feature some outstanding talent on their roster. Graduate student Julie Bousseau leads the team in singles wins with an impressive tally of seven victories. She’s not alone in her pursuit of excellence; several other athletes have also stepped up this season. Key contributions come from seniors Mille Haagensen and Michaela Kucharova, as well as redshirt junior Maja Dodik and freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo, each contributing with at least five singles wins this year.
In doubles play, the pair of Kucharova and Villanueva Morillo have emerged as a dynamic duo, boasting an impressive 8-4 record this season, leading the Mountaineers’ efforts on the court.

West Virginia has a strong historical presence in its matches against Cincinnati, holding an 11-7 all-time advantage since their first meeting in 1978. Last season, the Mountaineers asserted their dominance, sweeping the Bearcats with a decisive 7-0 victory in Morgantown. Will they be able to replicate that success on Cincinnati’s turf?
