Michigan State Women's Golf Team Shines at Clemson Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. — The Michigan State women's golf team showcased their talent at the prestigious Clemson Invitational held at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in beautiful Sunset, South Carolina. Competing against 15 formidable teams, the Spartans finished with a score of 7-over par 295, securing a commendable 10th place overall.

A Tournament of Excellence

This year’s tournament was nothing short of electrifying, featuring eight nationally ranked teams vying for supremacy. The Spartans, currently holding the #23 spot in the rankings, faced tough competition over the course of three action-packed days.

After the first round, Ohio State took the lead with an impressive 13-under par 275. Not far behind, SMU and Tennessee followed suit, posting 12-under par 276 and 10-under par 278, respectively. The competitive spirit continued with Arkansas and LSU rounding out the top five at 9-under par 279 and 8-under par 280.

Individual Highlights

Leading the charge for Michigan State was seasoned senior Brooke Biermann, who fired off an outstanding 1-under par 71. This impressive performance saw her tie for 21st place and marked Biermann’s 11th round of par or better this season.

Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia also made her mark, finishing at 1-over par 73, which puts her in a tie for 35th place. Notably, Murcia led the team by nailing five birdies during the round, demonstrating her capacity to make significant gains on the course.

Senior Katie Lu ended her day tied for 55th place with a score of 3-over par 75. Additionally, both freshman Catalina Monroy and junior Paula Balanzategui found themselves tied for 60th place, each carding a 4-over par 76.

Playing as an individual, senior Shannon Kennedy also performed admirably, posting a 1-over par 73 and tying for 35th place.

Statistical Highlights

As a unit, the Spartans achieved 13 birdies, pushing their season total to a remarkable 328 across eight competitive events. Their determination and skill shine through, as the team continues striving for excellence in each match.

Looking Forward

Exciting challenges await as round two is set to resume with a split-tee start at 9 a.m., where the Spartans will compete alongside the likes of Clemson, Ole Miss, and North Carolina Wilmington. From strategy to execution, fans are eagerly anticipating how Michigan State will perform in the next round.
