Six years ago, Nicola embarked on her journey with Convera’s Bids team, diligently working on tenders and proposals to support the organization’s new business ventures. This experience laid a solid foundation, deepening her understanding of both Convera’s core business and the dynamic market landscape. When a new opportunity presented itself, Nicola eagerly seized the chance to grow.
“The Bids team recently integrated into the wider Brand & Growth organization,” Nicola shares enthusiastically. “This shift allowed me to gain invaluable insights into various functions within the company. I realized that the skills I honed in the bids arena could translate effectively into other areas, which was incredibly exciting.”
“When the chance arose to join the Product Marketing team, focusing on a new market segment, I knew I had to apply. The notion of flexing my creative muscles to craft strategies for this fresh segment was incredibly appealing, and here I am—thriving in a new role!”
Communicating Across Borders
One of the key attractions of the Product Marketing role for Nicola is its global nature, fueling her passion for building relationships with colleagues spanning various continents while collaborating cross-functionally.
“My days fluctuate tremendously,” Nicola explains. “After my first cup of tea, I could be engaged in discussions with teams across the globe about the competitive landscape in their regions. Other days, I’m deep in the creative process, designing email marketing campaigns or fine-tuning website content.”
When asked about the most crucial skill for her success, Nicola emphasizes the importance of **clear communication** across functions. “Stakeholder management is pivotal in my role. There can be many contrasting opinions in one room, so effective communication is essential to navigate those discussions and emerge with actionable tasks that keep our projects moving forward.”
“Moreover, I believe that asking for support is vital. While I may not be new to the organization, I’m still adapting to this function. There’s always more to learn, and curiosity is key to professional growth.”
Tackling Websites and Marathons
Each day, Nicola challenges herself with diverse projects—from conducting competitive analyses of new strategic markets to developing frameworks that empower go-to-market teams in revenue retention and growth.
“Right now, I’m deeply involved in a cross-functional project aimed at redefining our website’s messaging and content. It’s an exhilarating challenge that diverges from my past projects, yet I find myself leveraging skills from my previous role to reach these new objectives.”
Outside the professional realm, Nicola approaches life with the same zeal she brings to Convera. “Staying busy is a priority for me,” she says. “Fitness is crucial to my lifestyle, and I also enjoy exploring new cuisines. Recently, I trained for a half marathon—an accomplishment I’m immensely proud of!”
As a mother of a toddler who keeps her on her toes and a bride-to-be planning her wedding, Nicola’s life is unceasingly busy. “I thrive on creativity, pushing my limits, and discovering what I’m capable of. It’s a surprise to many that I was a competitive all-star cheerleader for ten years!”
