North Adams License Commission Approves Wine & Beer for State Food & Drink

A New Chapter for Local Dining

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — In an exciting development for food enthusiasts, the License Commission has granted a beer and wine license to State Food and Drink LLC, located at 508 State Road. This step not only expands the dining options in the area but also sets the stage for a unique culinary experience.

Owners’ Vision for a Diverse Dining Experience

Owner Matt Bertles, who along with his husband Tu Le, opened the restaurant in November of last year, shared their passion for enhancing the diner experience. "We’re just trying to provide our guests the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with their meal," Bertles explained. This commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere is evident in every aspect of their establishment.

Quality Service and Staff Training

With the upcoming addition of alcohol service, Bertles reassured that the experience will be inside-only. Instead of a full bar setup, beverages will be served directly from cans and bottles, making the experience both intimate and straightforward. Bertles, who has prior experience in alcohol service, emphasized that all staff members will be thoroughly trained by the time the license is finalized. “We have a great team in place,” he stated, recognizing the ongoing challenge of staff recruitment.

Anticipating Changes Ahead

The restaurant anticipates a waiting period of about two months before the license is issued, but Bertles welcomes this timeframe. He notes that the hours of operation will be from 11 AM to 11 PM, with breakfast focusing on pastries and coffee and dinner service running from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This flexibility allows for adjustments based on seasonal trends and customer preferences, as Bertles ponders how summer might affect late-night dining dynamics.

Community Events on the Horizon

In addition to the exciting developments at State Food and Drink, the License Commission also approved a one-day alcohol permit for Jared Decoteau for the Pride event scheduled for June 20, 5 PM to 9 PM, at a designated area on Holden Street. Another noteworthy mention is the upcoming Berkshire Food Project fundraiser, slated for September 12, 6 PM – 9 PM at Greylock Works. This ticketed event promises a “Chopped”-style chef exhibition, featuring prominent local chefs, and is being organized by Mariah Forstmann, the owner of Casita, and a board member.

Conclusion: A Bright Future for Dining in North Adams

With these new developments, North Adams is poised for an enriched dining scene that caters to both locals and visitors alike. The addition of wine and beer options at State Food and Drink is not just a milestone for the restaurant but a step forward for the community’s culinary landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as the restaurant prepares to unveil its new offerings!
