In an exhilarating weekend of competition, Oregon State University Athletics showcased their remarkable talent in track and field at renowned events across California. Athletes pushed boundaries, setting impressive personal records and solidifying their places in OSU history.
Stanford Invitational Highlights
One of the standout performances came from Jillian Brown, who dazzled at the Stanford Invitational with a stunning career-best time of 2:07.23 in the 800 meters. This remarkable achievement not only earned her a third-place spot in OSU history, but it also showcased her potential as a junior athlete. Brown didn’t just stop there—she teamed up with Addison Swartzendruber, Dede Norman, and Jada Hurley to propel the Beavers’ 4×400 meter relay squad to a time of 3:45.84, marking the fourth-fastest time ever recorded at Oregon State.
At the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, teammates Ruby Broadbent and Ainsley Herron delivered impressive finishes in the 800 meters, securing third and twelfth place, respectively. Broadbent clocked in at 2:08.56, while Herron followed closely behind at 2:10.82. Their performances were bolstered by the entire team, with Sydney Partyka, Meagen Lowe, and others recording personal bests, a promising sign of the Beavers’ collective power and ambition.
Incredible Individual Victories
The successes didn’t stop with the relays; the Beavers dominated in individual events as well. Grace Proudfoot soared to victory in the high jump, clearing 1.67m (5-5.75), while Riley Patera sprinted her way to the top of the standings in the 100 meters with an impressive 12.43 seconds.
In the pole vault, Maddy Juhler continued her strong showing by clearing a height of 3.65m (11-11.75), securing fourth place. Not to be overlooked, Lilia Montiel also shone bright, adding a top-ten finish with a clearance of 3.20m (10-6).
Performance Recap: A Memorable Friday
Friday’s events laid the groundwork for OSU’s success, with standout showings from Ainsley Herron, who ran a remarkable 4:22.19 in the 1,500 meters—securing her place as the sixth fastest in OSU history. Fellow athletes Ruby Broadbent and Maya Baechler joined her in a personal best frenzy, illustrating the depth of talent on this year’s squad.
Moreover, in the steeplechase event, Jamie Hamlin executed a flawless performance, finishing with a career-best time of 10:33.99, claiming her spot sixth on the OSU all-time list.
Noteworthy Performances Across Events
Oregon State showcased their versatility as both the sprints crew and throwers excelled throughout the weekend:
- Addison Swartzendruber blazed through the 400 meters with a personal best of 56.74, elevating her to seventh all-time at OSU.
- The javelin throwers, spearheaded by Maryanne Ackerman, who recorded a jaw-dropping throw of 52.38m (171-10), claimed a new school record and embodied the competitive spirit of the Beavers.
In the discus, Katie Gelston also made her mark with a personal best toss of 53.04m (174-0), landing her in the third spot on the OSU all-time leaderboard.
