Oregon State University Athletics: A Stellar Weekend of Track and Field Triumphs
SAN FRANCISCO, SAN DIEGO & BERKELEY, Calif. – The Oregon State Track and Field team kicked off their weekend in emphatic style, showcasing remarkable talent and determination across the sunny fields of California. With multiple personal bests and historic performances, the Beavers are demonstrating why they belong among the elite in collegiate athletics.
Ainsley Herron’s Breakthrough at Stanford Invitational
At the Stanford Invitational, a shining star emerged: Ainsley Herron, who crushed the 1,500 meters with a stunning time of 4:22.19. This personal best not only marks an incredible achievement for Herron but also ranks as the sixth-fastest time in Oregon State history! She was closely supported by a talented contingent, including Ruby Broadbent, who clocked in at 4:23.45, and Maya Baechler at 4:28.28—both securing personal bests.
Alongside them, Abby Pradere timed 4:23.05, while Sydney Partyka posted 4:28.10. This impressive performance highlighted the depth of talent within the Beavers’ squad.
Steeplechase Success by Jamie Hamlin
Not to be outdone, Jamie Hamlin delivered a stellar showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording a personal-best time of 10:33.99—an achievement that secures her place in the top ten all-time performances for Oregon State.
In the 5,000 meters, Erin Cosgrove led the charge again for OSU, completing the race in 16:53.47, with Sage Brooks following closely at 17:12.38.
Sprints and Field Events Shine Bright
The Beavers’ sprinting roster also made waves, notably with Addison Swartzendruber achieving a personal best of 56.74 seconds in the 400 meters, moving her into seventh position on OSU’s all-time list. Teammate Jada Hurley recorded times of 12.20 in the 100 meters and 24.81 in the 200 meters.
In the field events, Mia Fowler soared to a victory in the pole vault, clearing 3.67 meters, while Maddy Juhler secured second place at 3.52 meters.
Javelin Dominance at Triton Invitational
The Beavers put on a javelin clinic at the Triton Invitational, with Maryanne Ackerman blowing away her previous best throw with an extraordinary 52.38 meters / 171 feet 10 inches—a mark that establishes her as the top javelin thrower in OSU history! Izzy Esler followed up with a powerful throw of 49.83 meters / 163 feet 6 inches, and Sara Sanders excelled with a throw of 47.04 meters / 154 feet 4 inches.
In the discus event, Katie Gelston registered a spectacular 53.04 meters / 174 feet, placing her third all-time at OSU, while Markayla Billings shone in the hammer throw, finishing sixth with a distance of 50.78 meters.
Record-breaking Weekend at Mike Fanelli Track Classic
As if that wasn’t enough, at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Katie Kopec spearheaded the distance group with an impressive performance in the 5,000 meters, clocking a personal best of 16:38.43, improving her time by a whopping 19 seconds! Supporting her was Eimy Martinez, finishing in 16:59.22.
The 1,500 meters featured several personal bests, including times from Meagan Lowe (4:28.11), Kate Yahn (4:38.38), Reese Morkert (4:40.66), and Payton Smith (4:50.47).
